Recommed me a Tire

Hey RS,

So I blew a tire a week back and I'm in the market for new tires. Currently looking at kumho ecsta's. Any recommendations for good tires? it's a plus if I can pick it up locally.

Oh and tire size is 205/50/16.

What is your application?

All season? Winter? Summer? What would you choose as most important between tire wear, comfort, dry performance, wet performance and snow performance? If you can answer these questions you'll be able to pick one or two tires from each manufacturer.

There are a few Kumho Ecsta models (Ecsta, like Bridgestone's Potenza, is a line within Kumho's product line), so saying Kumho Ecsta isn't too specific.

Okay... Looking at all seasons although it wont be driven in snow. Looking for good rain performance as well as tread wear.

So hope this helps.

Kumho SPT would fit, though it IS a summer tire (might start to get sketchy when it freezes). Otherwise you're looking at Kumho ASX or AST.

TireTrends has the General Exclaim UHP which is an all-season tire for $120/tire, and they're in Maple Ridge. They're supposed to be good tires in dry/wet, but as with all A/S tires can be iffy in snow...

+1 on the General Exclaim UHP! They offer good grip in the summer, and exceptional grip in the RAIN!! Their tread life is long as well.

The ASX's are pretty good for all season performance and handling, worked fine in the snow on an sti we had a few winters back :)

I'm riding on SPTs right now and they're pretty good, although the weather has been nice, But i think the road noise is pretty good, although my car is kinda noisy so you can't really hear much else over the exhaust :haha: Performance is excellent though

Prices are great on ecstas I believe, Got mine at advanced in north van (RS sponsor :thumbsup) but they carry the more common sizes, you should call ahead to see if they have your size, the guy there also recommended the diamondbacks but i opted for kumhos instead for an extra $100 lol

I'm on ASX and was on AST's both good both road noise is huge on the AST

and both of them is more or less aimed for summer as when there was rain/snow limited traction

lol a few winters ago i got stuck in my driveway with those in the snow.. its at about a 1 degree angle and i was just spinning. :P haha
never made that mistake again

godwin 08-25-2009 09:29 PM

The key to selection is make sure the tire compound contains silicon. It improves handling and allow pliability during changing temperature conditions.

snowball 08-25-2009 11:43 PM

ASX for more rain, AST for more dry and budget, both almost useless in snow
