Where can I look for instructors who offer manual driving lessons

I know I can buy a beater and learn, learn from a friend, etc but I prefer paying an instructor with a manual car to teach. There are loads of automatic driving instructors, but where can I look for a manual one?

I think most of the larger driving schools have manual cars that you can drive. Not sure about the one man operations though.

Yup, YD has manual, and so do most better known driving schools,

It's really not that difficult, go to a parking lot, find a car with a decent clutch and learn to drive without the accelerator to learn when how to feel/when the catch point is, It's probably difficult for an instructor to tell you what to feel, I don't know i'm not a professional.

And an instructor won't tell you to double clutch into first when coming to a stop sign ;)

drive at 2am in the morning and learn on your own

look through the yellow pages..
i remember calling into bestway driving school -- the prices are steeper.
i had one lesson at this school on main street (kinda sketch looking inside though) i went there cuz it was cheapest haha
the guy was an old man...the car was a toyota paseo. it was ALRIGHT.... i only learnt for one and a half hour and i didnt even go past third gear haha
after that i learnt on a friends car

This is probably the best thing you can do. Honestly its not that hard.
The first time I drove a manual car was my cousins civic Si.

I only stalled because I wasnt giving it enough gas when turning around in an empty parking lot

My shifts werent TOO bad, but it takes practice to get good

My friend taught me one time in his cars, then I bought myself a $500 dollars car to practice.

If you have your license already and just want to learn how to drive stick. Then take your friend's manual car, or buy a manual beater and find a parking lot and go figure. Literally. It would be best to have a friend beside you to give pointers.

If you are still a L and want to learn to drive stick and go do the road test with a manual car. Then good luck, I heard many horror stories of points knocked off for stupid reasons.

It's easy to learn the basics of feeling for the friction point then shifting properly then slowing down/downshifting. Practice on a hill is also very good. Learn how to apply the e-brake/hand brake is a good asset to have. After 2-3 weeks of driving a manual/standard car it'll be second nature. :thumbsup:

^ learning to hold the car in a steady position on a slight incline by letting the clutch slightly out and applying some gas is key, helps so much when starting on a hill and there's a brand new vehicle behind you.

I was taught how to drive manual in europe when i was 8 years old, funny how in Vancouver some people are afraid to even try manual.

Yup it takes less than 2 hours to learn to get going etc. not stalling, the rest comes with experience and time,
It's funny how ppl just stay away whenever they see standards,

like someone said, takes a short period of time to learn for most, but may take months if not years to actually say you are FAIRLY decent driving stick

if a girl can learn manual within 3 hours, I don't think it will take longer for a guy to master it.

My mom spent 3 hour or so (asian c-lai) and worn out my dad's clutch. She got it.
My gf spent 1hr + some practice shifting with my dick that night. She got it.
My female friends...all within 2 hours. no problem at all

Don't forget the cardboard sign taped to the trunk lid that says something like "learning stick.. stay back" in letters that are too small to see, until you're too close and it's too late.

ya best way to learn is to learn the basics and just drive.... i remember i was forced to drive one since my new car was manual. after a couple weeks it came natural... nothing like learning on random terrain (highway rushhour etc..)

once u go standard youll never want to drive an auto again

nope...countless people go from manual to auto backward, it's not fun to drive one in burnaby everyday in traffic

agreed ~ i think as people get older people go / go back to auto

do what i did:

1. go to a dealership
2. pretend you want to buy a manual car
3. have the salesman train you
4. voila! free driving lessons :haha:
