Ah, the bagged milk. Came in three's. Wasn't the greatest idea in the world. Sometimes the bag would slide out of the container and make a mess. Sometimes, the bags were pretty tight and sliding them into the container was difficult. I remember those Dairyland 4 litre cartons that milk used to come in - actually it was a gallon, lol. My mom used them to store potting soil, seeds, and fertilizers in them. |
ugh the bagged milk era. i also remember dairyland used to have home delivery service for their milk and other products until it was too cost prohibitive and is not common anymore. but those damn bags... i could never cut the corner of the bag just right so you either got a trickle or a huge dump all over the place. i think we still have one of those containers somewhere... used to use it for kitchen utensils. |
ahahahaha........... is it the oval kind or the more rectangular kind? The bag wasn't just a trial that lasted a few months. |
it was oval. camo green and later a nasty mustard colored one i think. i remember busting the handle off the camo one because i was a cocky little shit and dropped it on the floor after trying to drink straight out of the bag. i ended up spilling it down my face and shirt because i cut the hole too damn big yet again... |
i grew up in ontario so i know these bags well. don't think i ever experienced them here in vancouver |
egh...i had to google it. this is for those kids out there who don't know what us old timers are talking about: http://dylanb.files.wordpress.com/2006/06/milk.JPGhttp://cdn1.indie88cdn.com/wp-conten.../Dairyland.png |
I'm sure my parents have the mustard coloured milk pitcher kicking around somewhere. And I still have some of the Canucks "collector cards" from the early 80's that came in the bag. Check 'em out: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...k-cards-01.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...k-cards-02.jpg |
^ Where's Orland Kurtenbach? and Wayne Maki? Damn, hockey games at the Pacific Coliseum were so fun. Way more ambience than, what's that place called again? |
I was going up Canada Way today and thought about a drive in that used to be there. Cascades. Apparently it closed down in 1982. That's not that long ago. Also, there was one where ICBC Driver Services was. I vaguely recall it being mentioned in this thread. On my way back from the US, I took Fraser Highway. No more Twilight Drive in. Looks like it's some trailer sales business now. |
They still use it in Ontario.. there are better green creds for plastic bags ie they are much much easier to recycle than tetra paks.. There is only 1 factory that recycles tetrapaks in North America.. Metro used to ship all tetrapaks to Italy for recycling.. the carbon foot print is insane!! Quote:

God Damn, Yankees............. I actually knew most of this, but not with that much detail. Love the street names - their origins and importance. Guide Meridian, LOL. Number one and number two road being one mile apart. Colonel Moody was da man! |
I love story time! That was a great video. |
I haven't been up to where it was tied up, in a couple of years. Didn't know it'd been cleaned up a bit. |

For the most part, the Vancouver section of roads has not upgraded at all lmao. Probably shrunk instead, if not stayed the same loool Found another one: Hwy 1 from Bby to out east. Look at that 2 year old Port Mann Bridge! After Port Mann literally looks completely unchanged up until the recent hwy upgrade a few years ago lol |
1:10 Charlie's Tree, back when it was still standing and not a stump... |
It’s amazing how that tree, now stump, has affected us all. Okay, I’m exaggerating but it’s cool that they bent Hwy 1 around it, instead of destroying it. |
I'm laughing at how the Lion's Gate bridge still carries the same 3 lanes to this day, that it did 50 years ago. To think how much this city's population was grown from half a century ago, and yet much of our roads, and infrastructure remains the same, meanwhile we're carrying some of the highest prices for real estate in the modern world. It's very bizarre, and unfortunate. BC has always had the reputation in Canada as the "Wild West" when it comes to government corruption. It makes me really wonder how much tax payer money has been siphoned away to darker means, rather than improving the much needed infrastructure this city really requires. It's baffling to me. |
Downtown traffic looked as bad in the 60s as it does now. All that talk about widening the Stanley Park causeway... it was hella wide back then anyway! |

I've been there many times. Nothing to write home about, but people have been going there for ages. It's like a lot of places that stood the test of time. Nothing great, but the atmosphere and just being there with good friends made the food taste more than it is. |
