Forgot about a big cellphone the size of water bottle. That cousin back in the day thought having a Cantel pager was cool as a university student. | We all had those in the mid 90's lol.

Damn, I remember going there with my parents on Saturday mornings for a quick breakfast before heading to Chinese school at the cultural centre.
Became one of my favourite breakfast places for a bor lor yau when I needed to escape DT prior to heading into the office.

All I remember is the stench. Homeless people used the place to do whatever it is they do.

Fond memories of Gold Stone. It's sad to see our chinatown disintegrate while in other cities, theirs is still alive and well |

I spent countless hours in Chinatown as a kid as that was our main grocery spot growing up. Groceries, meals, haircuts, toys and slippers.
Man I have soooo many more memories of hanging out in Chinatown vs other parts of the city.
6 or 7 years ago I parked by Strathcona school every, and walked through Chinatown Keefer or Pender to work at an office by Tinseltown. Even back then I saw first hand how Chinatown had changed from it's heyday.
Last year I visited San Francisco Chinatown for the first time. Man it was an incredible experience.
It was probably 2 or 3 times the size of Vancouver Chinatown. And the streets were PACKED. So many of the shops were as authentic as Chinatown as it gets. From the grocers to the herbal stores to the restaurants.
I loved hearing so many of the Chinese people speak the "villager" dialects I grew up with LOL.
I don't know what San Fran's Chinatown was like back in the day. But to me it felt like it was absolutely thriving.
Couldn't help but think "Man. This place is incredible compared to our Chinatown...." |

gonna miss the OG "kids meal" used to go there on weekends regularly. usually twice a month just for groceries and baked goods.
sigh. there goes another fond memory. Vancouver is slowly erasing its character and becoming even more dull.

Our Chinatown has been on a slow decline for ages, but that's because we have such a large and established Asian community in Vancouver, so our Chinatown is basically everywhere in the city
Chinatown in other cities are still thriving because they don't really have a Richmond, or Kingsway, etc

Reaching far in the recesses of my mind, but before Telus wasn't there some small start-up named ClearTel or something like that that had similar branding to the Telus of today..
Oh, and Rogers Cantel AT&T was it? Not just Rogers quite yet...

Oh, and Rogers Cantel AT&T was it? Not just Rogers quite yet... | I think you meant Clearnet. They were a digital PCS wireless provider based out of Ontario, and was purchased by Telus, and continued to adopt their animal-themed adversiting strategy.
Rogers wireless business brand was originally Cantel, then came Cantel AT&T for when AT&T invested as a major stakeholder in building out their wireless network until Rogers bought back the shares and for it to become Rogers Wireless.
