Outback's are awesome for reliability with the 2.5H4 SOHC engine.. My family has 3 Subaru's using the same engine, and they've been great.. You may also want to consider the Forester..

If the roads in Van are anything like last Dec/Jan, you would definately want to get dedicated snows..

Tirerack has some pretty cheap Blizzak WS60s on sale right now..

i was looking at older forester 98,99 and legacy in the same year a lot of poeple says it has engine issues ....

and for those 4runner owners the older 91-94 had rear wheel abs..... how did you guys take that in slippery conditions? (never had a car with rear wheel abs)

you can but you need a subframe drop. It's almost not worth it though doing a subframe drop.

It's because this year is an El Nino year so they are predicting a warmer winter than last year.

I say forget the 4runner and the Pathfinder and get yourself a nice Jeep TJ. The 4.0 liter HO is beyond bulletproof and they are the honda civics in the world of offroading when it comes to aftermarket support.
