I've had a chance to drive both.
The Si:
- Glorious shifter. I know 3rd gear grind has been an issue but I was driving a newer car so perhaps it hadn't revealed itself yet.
- The fit and finish in the interior is very well done.
- I don't think the interior design will age well. It's just a little over the top for me, in spite of the functional merits it might have.
- My car has 300lb/ft of torque so coming to the Si is a little hard. The car doesn't really feel fast. Even getting deep in the revs, the sensation is that you're going fast, but you're just keeping pace with traffic. That wore on me quickly. A little too high strung.
Genesis Coupe 2.0t
* The car I drove is a premium package model with leather. I think that rings in at $27k so a little different then what you are looking at specifically OP.
- Contrary to what I expected, this is a very solid car. The way the doors close, highway manners, road noise. I was expecting a tin can for some reason.
- Interior design is much more traditional. Nice but the fit and finish is not as tight as the Si.
- The 2.0T is smooth but lacking punch. You can tell this motor has a lot more potential but it's been badly corked in stock form.
- The shifter is sloppier then the Si. Not terrible, but pretty vague.
- My biggest gripe with this car was the rev-hang. When clutching in, the revs would hold for a second so as ensure combustion. From what I've read, this was done to ensure the cat in the car reaches past the 100,000km warranty that Hyundai offers. Not sure if it's true, but hopefully someone can find a way around this nuisance. It certainly didn't feel natural to drive and took some serious adjustments for me to drive smoothly.
Overall, if it were my money, I would have to go with the Genesis.
1. You get more for less
2. It will be really easy to uncork that motor for more power.
3. Even in stock form, the RWD drivetrain is just flat-out more fun.
If you value reliability, resale and don't intend to mod the car much, go for the Si.

where did you get vtech from? There is NO H in vtec
With the money you save on the genesis over civic, you could put into performance mods.
The OP even mentioned he wanted to do some tuning later on down the road.

Don't race any LS600HL's if you get the Si.

the 2.0L turbo is the lower end that compares to the SI...the higher end 3.8L v6 compares to the g37 and such

at the end? hyundai and kia? no thank you
Sony/Panasonic or samsung/LG?
i will take japanese brand, thank you |
Stock for stock the SI may be faster, but for less money and way more tuning potential I would take the Genisis 100 times over...
and this is coming from a Japanese "brand whore" so to speak (owned Skylines and have an FD)...

The Si is slower than LS600hL but definitely faster than 2.0T, I did a quick research and saw the test results.
Every test results shows 7.0+ sec 0-60mph time for 2.0T, whereas Civic Si can be as quick as 6.2 seconds. (Honda claims 6.7 seconds)
The 3.8L V6 Genesis is faster, but slower than 370Z or Mustang GT. | WHAT would u do with an extra 0.8 seconds?? enjoy the FWD?

you guys forget that the k20 from the civic si has incredible potential too. And its still NA. bolt ons and kpro, you are at 200whp. more expensive, but better resale value and more reliable. turbo = more things to worry about.

that is of course with a k24 block/k20head setup. So you can't say that the genesis has way more potential. k20 i-vtec? or hyundai turbo engine? cmon now....

for that price range and performance wise, you should also consider the VW GTI, and/or Nissan Sentra SER Spec V.

DC5 I/H/E bolt ons with kpro can run 13.8 quarter mile with stock internal on street tires. WIth drag radials its able to pull 13.5 with stock internals as well fully N/A. best 4 banger ever made end of discussion.
k20 has a lot more potential to free up vs the s2k F20C / F22 engine. The s2k came with full potential, while the k20 on the other hand still has rooms to improve.
My friend's DC2 JDM K20 is putting down 225-230whp fully n/a
so even tho the genesis has about 50 -60 pounds torque more than the Si, funny how it aint faster. Now on the other hand if Si had 50-60hp more it'd smoke the genesis out of blue despite no change to the current torque value.

k24/k20 hybrid will not get to 400whp N/A. btw it's flashpro for Si, not Kpro.
coming from an Si driver for over 1.5years, don't get it. lacks power until 5-6K rpm. vtec kicks in at 5800, peak torque at 6100.
