| Diesel Supercar
Why has no company done this yet? I know Audi was talking about creating a diesel version of the R8 but that got cancelled.
Finding an engine wouldnt be too hard with both Audi and BMW now having smaller diesel engines to choose from. Use an aftermarket chip and a couple other bolt ons and they would be making over 300 hp and enough torque to pull a tree out of the ground.

horsepower and torque alone does not make a supercar

I'm sure there are people out there that would be happy to have a supercar that is actually practical. With the right gas tank you could drive to Calgary on a tank of gas.

i dont think diesels have enough torque to pull off the wheel spinning launches and turns that we're used to :/ but iono im not a mechanic ^^...but thats the problem with diesels isnt it? low revs?
if you want diesel supercar, i think the closest thing we have is the audi le mans tdi haha
and btw OP, audi actually made the engine for the diesel r8...i think they just cancelled it cuz there wasnt a market haha

The most beneficial of using diesel engine is the huge amount of torque, and efficiency of the fuel. Ever wonder why all the big rigs, tow trucks and what not are diesel?

There was a diesel race car, i'm talkin dozens and dozens of years ago, which raced in the Le Mans ( or that type) of race, however, lack of high quality metals back in the day led to too many breakages.
Really makes you wonder how awesome diesel engines would be here in N. America if all the research wasn't put into gasoline engines.

Check out http://www.bankspower.com/dieseldragtruck for badass diesel drag truck.
Keep in mind that they're only using a small pickup truck sized engine. Diesels like the Cummins ISX can make insane HP/TQ, but they're a lil large for your everyday vehicle.

Well Audi does have a concept car - R8 V12 TDI - but I think that has been scrapped.

The JCB Dieselmax has set a new record for the fastest ever diesel-powered vehicle, with the British-designed car travelling at more than 350 miles per hour.
It comes only a day after the vehicle broke a 33-year-old record when Wing Commander Andy Green from RAF Wittering achieved a speed of 328.7mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah.
Although the results have yet to be ratified by FIA, the international motor sport authority, Wing Cmdr Green was in ecstatic mood after today's run.
"I am so pleased that we have got the car to 350mph, which was always our ultimate goal and that was with a slow start to the second run. There is so much more to come as the car is pulling like a train and we still haven't used sixth gear," he said.
"Today's record proves the potential we have always believed JCB Dieselmax to possess. This is another great result for a wonderful team and a testament to British engineering."
Earlier in the day, the chairman of industrial vehicle manufacturer JCB has said that his company's success in breaking the land speed record would allow the firm to venture into markets previously thought unreachable.
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live Sir Anthony Bamford said that the success of the Dieselmax project, which was powered by two-turbo charged engines, was likely to have a significant effect upon the business' overall health.
"We do make diesel engines, and what better way of showing the world that we make fantastic diesel engines and now the fastest in the world," he told Wake up to Money.
"To me is seemed a very good way of showing the world what we're capable of from an engineering point of view. But also we want to sell our engines into other markets apart from just construction machinery," the chairman explained.
Sir Anthony said that industries such as the marine business and standby generators market were two sectors that JCB could now expand into. | http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/news/transport/jcb-supercar-breaks-350mph-barrier-$448391.htm
