2010 VW Golf R

fellow listmember sent me this:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/10909142...rankfurt-debut

Quote:
Volkswagen is unveiling the second new R model in its current lineup at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Golf R shares its basic underpinnings with the recently-unveiled Scirocco R. It also adds VW's 4Motion AWD to its architecture.
Replacing the heavy naturally aspirated 3.2-litre V6 found in the Golf V R32 is a 2.0-litre petrol turbo engine. Power is 195kW (265hp) and torque is around the 350Nm mark. The 0 - 100km/h time should be covered in about 6.5 seconds for the 6-speed manual and 6.4 seconds for the DSG model. These figures compare very well with the Audi S3 and the TT S with which the Golf R shares its engine.

If you thought it would be a basic upgrade on the GTI you'd be wrong. The car features a host of changes including new front grille with LED daytime running lights, a different set of wheels, R side sills, R badging at the rear and those twin tailpipes almost come together in the middle. The interior is much sportier as well with two-tone sports seats, aluminum pedals and R badging in places like the flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The good news for US fans is that the Golf R is headed for North America according to reports, although nothing has been confirmed for its 3-door Scirocco relative.
... and of course, NOT AVAILABLE IN CANADA

v10 TDI no longer exists for north america...

This car would be insane with a stage 3 setup... stock it basically replicates the Audi S3...

Hopefully the GoC won't ban this from being imported from the US... Given VWoC track record... they won't bring this to Canada... (but the farenheit GTI was a good idea...

Is it confirm that the R20 will not be available in Canada?
I was dreaming the other day when my lease on my GTI was up I would get the R20!

i asked 2 different vw salespeople at different locations/provinces and both said no to either a golf-R or a scirocco. canada amounts to a very tiny portion of vw's global sales, so they basically consider us small fish

ya some people bought one from seattle dealership and imported it via fright...but remember this (correct me if im wrong guys im just echoing words from www.golfmkv.com)

1. the pricing in states is different, after exchange rates you may find yourself spending alot
2. you will have to pay the local tax...so in seattle it would be like 9% i think
3. you will have to pay GST and PST on the car when you import it...so thats another 12%
4. if you choose not to drive it back up here, you'll needa hire a freight to ship the car up here...no idea how much that would cost
5. you will have to live with a MPH speedo and good luck selling the car (well i guess not cuz R32 is unique someone would probs buy it)
6 (and probably most important). i dont think the warranty with VW will travel with the car, so if your car needs to be services, you will probs have to pay for it :P

shouldn't be an issue because this time it's a 4cyl, so you can just swap gauge faces from a cdn mk6 gti with a km/h clock.

true. US warranty is non-transferrable. why i don't know. worst case scenario is that you drive across the border to WA and find a VW dealership there to handle warranty claims. cdn dealerships should be able to handle regular service though.

it's all about the 4motion for me. i'm chipped up the wazoo right now and i'm having traction issues in the dry and the ESP is going bezerk all the time... i'm not looking forward to wet fall weather right now, let alone winter/spring

wow, u sure know nothing about buying a car in the US and giving out false information..... your dad must own a car dealership on kingsway, and this whole importing thing must be putting him out of business.

1. the pricing in states is different, after exchange rates you may find yourself spending alot most of the time the pricing is cheaper in the US and if u are looking for a car not available in Canada, u expect to pay more
2. you will have to pay the local tax...so in seattle it would be like 9% i think non resident in washington or no resident in the state u are buying a car from does not require u to pay their sales tax, u must provide a valid id to prove that.
3. you will have to pay GST and PST on the car when you import it...so thats another 12% in the case of this vw, its will most likely be made in Germany and u will need to pay duty also
4. if you choose not to drive it back up here, you'll needa hire a freight to ship the car up here...no idea how much that would cost all american transport cost $1000 from Virginia to Seattle (just an expample and thats like 2500miles away)
5. you will have to live with a MPH speedo and good luck selling the car (well i guess not cuz R32 is unique someone would probs buy it) there are a lot of us import these days and ppl are willing to buy them used for a better price
6 (and probably most important). i dont think the warranty with VW will travel with the car, so if your car needs to be services, you will probs have to pay for it the money most ppl save getting a car in the US, they dont give a shit about that
