Stupid thieves ;)

Was sent this link today by one of my contacts at 3xLogic... hint: if you're going to break into a place, make sure it isn't the main office for someone who makes and sells high-end surveillance systems!

(Be sure to hit the HD button and go full-screen for the full effect!)

!Aznboi128 09-16-2009 10:44 PM

124Y 09-16-2009 11:08 PM

Fucking thieves. Low-life motherfuckers.

impactX 09-16-2009 11:21 PM

Wonder if they put little to no deterrence in order to gain the publicity they receive now.

Soundy 09-16-2009 11:24 PM

Yeah, I'm sure that was the plan all along.

you! 09-17-2009 09:10 AM

i need some of this stuff in my garage

Soundy 09-17-2009 09:26 AM

I can hook you up :) It's a bit spendy, though... don't know exactly what model was used for that video, but it's probably one by these guys, looks like a 3MP model, and probably runs around $1000-$1200.

TheKingdom2000 09-17-2009 10:00 PM

you would think the thief would wear a mask?

seriously..
with today's technology and education (street smarts) people have... you would think doing stuff like this would be a no brainer.. provided you had the kahuna's to do it..

CP.AR 09-18-2009 12:04 AM

HD button = instant win

dink 09-18-2009 05:49 AM

Soundy 09-18-2009 06:15 PM

So apparently the guy is well-known to police and was on probation... they know who he is, they just have to find him :)

The_AK 09-18-2009 06:29 PM

Very awesome demo of their services

So $1000-$1200 for the whole recording system? Fuck that sounds like a good deal to me if you've got a car and however many thousands of dollars of tools in the garage

Nobody ever said criminals were smart.

Uh, no... that's the price of the CAMERA. Depending on the brand and quality, megapixel cameras will run you anywhere from a couple hundred on fleaBay for a 1MP, to over $10,000 for a large-sensor Avigilon camera that uses Canon EF-mount SLR lenses.

Now granted, a lot of these cameras can record internally to SD card... pretty much all cameras of this resolution are IP network cameras, so many can also send video clips and stills via email or to an FTP server...

However, these guys in particular are recording to the DVR (digital video recorder) and NVR (network video recorder) systems *that they manufacture* (check out www.3xlogic.com)... those start at around $5000.

Yeah, that's kinda the point of the whole article...

At the very end, you can see a car (headlights) pulling into the parking lot. Someone to pick him up, or caught in the act?

underscore 09-19-2009 07:40 AM

^ it looks like the car is below him, so probably going to another business or something

Holy shit, I thought it might be less as the camera would be like a HD camcorder but without all the extra features that you don't need on a stationary camera. Then again, looking at what these guys sell, their stuff looks way more hardcore than you would want/need for say your garage, unless you're mega rich.

Synthetic 09-19-2009 09:18 AM

The fact I was left unimpressed with was how easy it was for an idiot to break into the offices of a company - in the security industry - and potentially have stolen customer information / computers as well.

Cops arriving, would be my guess. Keep in mind that these systems record only when there's motion detected, so between the time he leaves and the time the headlights come in, there would be nothing recorded, and it would just skip from one to the next.

Yeah, pretty much. We're using this type of cameras now at fuel services a lot - all the new Petros and Essos are getting them at the pumps, and some are putting them in-store as well. One new Esso we did a couple years ago was *all* megapixel cameras - 13 of them. We're also upgrading a lot of the Cactus Clubs with them.

Here's a sample from a downtown liquor store... first shot is a regular cheap dome camera, second shot is 1.3MP (you'll probably have to click it to get full-size as 1.3MP = 1280x1024) from the same position (you can see the dome in the bottom corner).

The technology is a bit pricey, yes, but it pretty much sells itself. I took screenshots as we were installing them in the Bentall Cactus when it was being built... showed those to the owner of this pub, just kind of as a "check out this neat stuff we're using now", not even trying to sell it... first words out of his mouth were, "I want that!".
