kudos on doing your own work. a few months ago i sucked it up and borrowed a friend's garage and tried to do it on my own... and i forgot to open up the oil cap before removing the drain screw, so i had the oil tray in the wrong location under the car when i realized the cap was still screwed on... took me longer to clean up the aftermath than it was to do the oil change and i think my friend dosen't want to see me again. now i remember why i don't want to work on my car anymore
you're lucky your filter is up top... my fsi is still at the bottom where it pukes all over me

You missed one really minor step Roastpuff. You should always take the engine oil filler cap off when you do an oil change. Oh and who needs oil filter wrenches when you got strong arms. |

There's absolutely no space to put my hand in there... clearance is very tight.

Pricing is rumored to start around 35k USD... I hope its cheaper than the STi & EVO up here.

Latest "rumors" say that final negotiations are taking place and decision will likely come down in the next two weeks. Things look pretty solid for both 2-door and 4-door with the choice of six-speed manual or six-speed DSG. In other words nearly everyone should be happy.
I'd also look for pricing around the same price as the outgoing Golf V model. Production would start at the end of this year with cars available 1st quarter of 2011.
We'll see in a few more weeks.
- jamie
| Looks like the time of reckoning has come... If they price the Golf-R the same as the outgoing R32, that would put it to roughly 35k USD fully loaded.

^Yes, US only..
This asian sales guy at Clarkdale told me to stop dreaming, and that the R will never come to Canada.
With that being said, I'm ready to place an order down south. I just hope the prices are comparable to the MK5 R32.

After reading all the UK reviews it should absolutely blow the R32 out of the water, better handling, fuel economy, more power and less weight.
I'm also ready to jump onto the Golf-R bandwagon in the states, called to Seattle and Portland, none of them are willing to sell to Canadians.
@too_slow - Where are you going to get yours ?
In other VW news the poor man's A5 might be getting the poor man's S version: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/27/r...get-r-variant/
Curious to hear if any of you had Mexico built VW's and if they had any problems ?

Curious to hear if any of you had Mexico built VW's and if they had any problems ? | i'm reluctant to buy from the US because vw canada will no longer honor US warranties for current and newer vw models
according to consumer reports, mexican-built vw's generally have better reliability (ie. average to better than average depending on model) than those built elsewhere.

My MK4 20AE was Brazillian made, and it has been bulletproof. No interior rattling (mind you, my car only had 4000kms when i bought it, and in the 3 years I owned it I only took it up to 11k)..
My Mk2 (16v) and MK3 (8v) had no drivability/reliability issues. The A/C compressor did die after 10 yrs (my mom bought it brand new in 1992, I bought it from her in 2001) on the 16v. I never had a leaking sunroof, or an exploding heater core like what others have reported.
With regards to bringing the R here, I have a cousin that lives in Redmond.. So I'll have to get the car in his name, and then eventually transfer the title over..

With the Mexico vs Germany thing.. On the Mk4 1.8Ts for instance, the German made models had the same problems as the Brazil/Mexican made models : window regulators, coilpacks, brake light switch.. According to the whoretex, the soft-touch materials that were found on the early Mk4s were peeling (I have personally witnessed this on my german made Mk4 GTI).. My Brazillian made model did not have the soft touch material - therefore, no peeling issues.

I might re-dyno at Blitzkrieg to see what their dyno says. The RG dyno is a heartbreaker.

I think if you want a reading that is a bit more optimistic (IIRC) is a Dynojet dyno...
