How long is the drive to Baker?
I am really thinking about getting a season pass for Cypress. I realize they aren't open for a month but I thought I'd still get my money's worth... especially since the passes are so cheap this year!

To baker isn't all that long.
the drive to sumas [abbotsford] then crossing the boarder, then roughly 45- an hour and a bit based on the conditions and the traffic, and how FAST you drive.
Baker is truly the best mountain locally [within reason] that provides you with the best snow fall possible.
If you have your avalanche gear and know avy safety, then baker is truly the best you can ride without taking a heli somewhere.

wat do u guys think of rome targa? | Taking a day course in avy safety could mean the life or lives saved if it came down to it.
Even if you ride the locals, knowing the snow lines, and the snow pack details could tell you why the patrol cuts the hills after a heavy snowfall.
A deep heavy snowfall doesn't always mean GREAT riding the day after.

^^ the problem is finding people to go with me. Also I am a beginner so not as good as people I know and don't want to burden them with sticking to begginer runs. I guess another prob is money for the hill, accomodations and gas/food, etc, lol. I have a pass to sun peaks so all I have to worry about it making sure I have enough gas to get there, lol

they have their guns running in full force to apply some sort of coverage for their green runs....
and sauce.....I totally understand about the $$$$ factor. Without that there is no road trip ability and no shred fun.
The skill level of you isn't worth mentioning just do a bait and switch :P

for a first/second timer. should i be renting, i plan to go more often/every year, or should i buy all my gear or combination of both. the first time i went it was all rented and through my high school so it was pretty cheap. Posted via RS Mobile |

^^if you will be going quite frequently over this season and use for another season or two I'd say buy. I was fortunate to have my board bought for me 3 seasons ago and will be using it again for this season.

Make your budget and spend more on=
-gloves, cold wet hands can ruin your day since you may be spending more time picking yourself up from the cold wet snow.
-pants, a cold wet ass is never fun, since you'll be spending time sitting on the cold wet snow, and cold wet chair lifts.
-goggles/eye protection, what you can't see you'll run into, that will deffly ruin your day if you hit something solid.
-thermals, beleive it or not, you can stay drier in synthetics or polyester as it has more breathability than natural fibers [except wool]
- socks and boots. THINNER IS BETTER. the warmth of your feet depend on blood flow, if you have thicker socks it will be colder to your toes than thinner socks, since you need to have a pocket of warmth around your toes. And the only way to warm your toes is with proper blood flow.
And that's pretty much it.
You can kit yourself up for UNDER a 1000. Used and consignment is good.
