What size board is everyone riding? height ? riding style?

I'm 6 foot riding a 153 and its time for a new board this season thinking of getting a longer board probably a 157.

mostly back woods riding I try to find as much fresh powder as I can. Stick mostly to blue and black runs the rest of the time.
I'm a little hesitant about going longer though because I want to start riding some park this year.

StealthFighter 11-09-2009 12:53 AM

is it ok to wear a skateboarding helmet with a toque under as a snowboarding helmet?

triplexcel 11-09-2009 12:55 AM

i'm 6'2 riding a 157 i think. i just started riding in the woods and it boosted my ability to control my board. i like freeriding but i still try to hit up the terrain park to work on some basic tricks.

sure. but you might want to invest in a full face as you progress in riding. the wind will cut your face! lol

I use to just use a toque because I thought you only needed a helmet if you're doing tricks, tree runs or in the terrain park but then I caught my edge wrong at a pretty good speed and ended up with a bruised tailbone and a concussion. There's nothing I can do to protect my body but at least that will heal a lot better than any head injury.

I ride with just my toque on. I own a helmet, but never wear it.

To be honest, I highly recommend wearing one, whether you're good at snowboarding, or if you're just starting. I've had some nasty spills in which I had hit my head and ended the day right there.
ie: Going near top speed and catching an edge, slipping off a rail and having my head hit it.

you can actually buy shorts that have some padding on them to protect ur tail bone, also there's different kinds of armour thats similar for your upper body. I saw some at the snowshow for about $50. If i had more money i woulda got it so i dont get bruised when i try those rails

A full face isn't necessary since it might hamper your peripheral vision. Really the only people that use full face are snowX racers

A skateboard helmet is essentially a snowboard helmet since it doesn't have the winter foamie stuff or the ear covers. A snowboard helmet has less vents, if not closing vents to prevent head chill.

There are many helmet liners and helmet beanies that you can buy to cover your head if you need more warmth.

As for body protection? Look at Dainese, Alpinestars, Crashpadz, and any bicycle shop as they usually sell body protection that won't hamper your movement. Bear in mind that you do have to consider your outerware since it may not fit over what you are wearing. Unless you like it ghetto gangsta ;)

thanks for that :) I'm not too worried about injuring my body cause that will heal and the only thing that wouldn't was if I became paralyzed and there's nothing that will prevent that, although I pray to god it doesn't happen lol

There are some back protectors that will prevent the spine from hyper extending, look at 661 body protection, they make some other good stuff as well.

Hit up Big White everyone. It was the best experience for me. The runs on the mountain were sooo long. Way better then cypress.

saveth 11-11-2009 02:48 PM

I go to big white every year for a couple of nights. Do you rent a place in the village or stay in the city?

00EM1 11-11-2009 08:50 PM

im off to big white for opening day, we booked early so for 3 of us it was under a grand for a place that we can board to in the village and passes for 4 nights and 5 days.

incubus 11-11-2009 09:06 PM

I could do it for you.

I just don't know where any of my wax is.

I think my movers tossed whatever looked like garbage in the move.

SilveRx 11-11-2009 10:07 PM

since everyone so knowledgeable...
can someone recommend me a goggle?? im looking for something wide frame
that give the best vision?? too many choices makes it confusing
thanks

incubus 11-11-2009 10:24 PM

ohh sweet thnx man

Vangruver 11-11-2009 10:24 PM

most all modern goggleys will have a wide peripheral for you.

but what you need to focus on is the fitment on your bridge.

some goggleys won't fit on a small bridge and some do.

Can't suggest a frame till you go and try some on.

jdmhaze 11-12-2009 07:38 PM

goggles can get very expensive....whats your price range?

And there are very economical goggles as well.

Sometimes the best goggles aren't the most expensive.

remember not everyone can afford what seems to be the best.

Whatever you're willing to spend, you want the best goggles for your money.
