Another EV charger related story. I’m at McAarthur Glen Outlet Mall charging while waiting to pick up my kid from the airport. Did some shopping and whatnot. When I got back to the car, there’s this guy in front of his Leaf looking at his charging port. The damn thing was smoking hot........... I mean it was about to catch on fire. He came back after charging for a while to find his port smoking. He had to get to work. I told him I’d put up a sign to warn others not to use the charger. I told him to take pictures of the damage on both ends and document everything. He didn’t know the name of the place. I gave him all the info and my number in case they wouldn’t cover the damages to his charge port. Melted plastic a that awful smell of burnt electrical wires........... yuk.

Poco Costco Gas Bar.

The lineup is 8 deep, 6 wide and some lady is in the middle and clearly can't start her car. I'm across the street, waiting for lunch, watching people ignore her and just drive around, like it's not their problem.

By the time I'm done lunch, she's still there. I need gas anyways so I drive over, between the lines, to ask if she needs help. All she needs is a jump start. Get my cables and she fires right up. In the meantime, the cars in front of us clear out, so we pull right up to the pumps. In and out in less than 10 minutes (twss).

I'm not posting cause I helped the lady out. More so, that it's infuriating seeing someone clearly in need of help and watching others ignore her. One would hope that if they, or someone they care about is in the same situation, someone would offer help but noooo....not their problem. Fucking idiots.

So I recently sold my townhouse and moved into a basement suite. Have a bunch of furniture and staging stuff all over the place.

I was doing an installation at a young couples suite and they told me they'd just come in from Toronto, earlier that day. They moved here for work and left all their furniture behind. The unit was empty, except for their clothes and luggage. They ordered some furniture from Ikea but because they needed it delivered, it was a week away.

Came by today with an unused inflatable mattress, some folding patio chairs and cutlery. They were so appreciative that a random person would go out of their way to help them out. Feels good man.

I must be getting soft in my old age. (twss)

I bought him a bottle of water as there was discount for 2 and he thanked me

dude had like shit loads of shots and 3 bottle whiskey, before that half a dozen of beer during mid night snack

I've taken it upon myself to help as many people in the back country this year as I can, given my ability and comfort and experience as my main hobbies are 4x4ing and hunting.

There is a facebook group where people can post up that they need help in the Okanagan, and I try to get to as many of them as I can. These arent search and rescue things, they're usually guys who are inexperienced offroad getting themselves into trouble. These are a few of about 10 people I've pulled out this year. I never ask for money or anything, and do this as what I call backcountry karma, as well as an excuse to get in the jeep. Most of these guys couldn't be helped with a tow truck, and the few that could would be looking at a $500 bill at least.

I put the pictures in a spoiler to not clog up the thread.

Spoiler!

I needed a guy like you when I was 16. Borrowed my dads Bronco II. Took it in the bush and high centred the crap out of it. Dad kept a come along in the back so I whipped that out but quickly bent it. Walked back to civilization, knocked on doors (boonies so everyone has a 4x4). Finally found a young guy with a lifted samurai. After some serious pulls with momentum (yikes) he finally got me out. Washed the Jeep clean as a whistle before I have it back to dad.

Dad gets in the next morning “what the hell were you doing with this thing?”. I guess I missed all the mud on the head liner. Hahahaha.

I eventually got someone to bootleg for me and got the samurai guy a 6
Pack of MGD lol. I feel a bit like a cheap ass now, but that was a lot for a kid.ha. Always been grateful for Mr Samurai.

I was piddling around the backyard this morning and this guy comes up to me and tells me he has a lawnmower that has a seized blade bolt that won't come off. Apparently, they've been at it for quite some time. I believe it after I saw how beaten up the bolt head was. Anyhow, I asked if they tried WD-40 and he said, "Absolutely." It's an old Craftsman lawnmower with a Briggs motor on it. I knew right away the bolt was SAE and not metric. Problem was, I don't have much in the way of Imperial impact sockets. I guess it didn't matter, because the bolt head was so beaten up, the right socket wouldn't have go on. I used a metric impact socket and it fit fairly snug. A few seconds on my Milwaukee impact wrench was all it took. The guy was so happy. He told me the lawnmower belong to their church and it was donated to them. Turns out, the guy was the son of my neighbour. He says, "My father told me to go see the neighbour, because he has every tool imaginable and if anyone can get that bolt off, it's him." Anyway, it was a god bless moment. Imagine that, a Buddhist helping out a Roman Catholic................ It was my lucky day. Helping out people is just that. A blessing. One day, when I need it the most, someone will come and help me out.

One winter evening, I broke the lock of my new BMW (yes, it was very amazing). The day was very cold and disgusting on its own, I was stuck in an unfamiliar area, so I was initially nervous, my phone was dead, and the second phone was inside the car. After several attempts to open the car, I decided to appeal to passersby, but no one even stopped. By the end, a guy in dirty working clothes approached me and asked what had happened. Reluctantly, I began to explain (he looked weird), but then it turned out that he was a locksmith! I was really very lucky. He picked at the lock and opened it. And didn`t take money for it! After we talked a bit and it turned out that he was working in *redacted* and was just leaving work. Naturally, I took his business card and since then I have been cooperating with him and with this company.

My brother and I were moving furniture for our parents and was gassing up the U-Haul van, when we noticed that a guy had his car die on him as he drove into the gas station. He was trying to push it into a parking stall so he can park it and take a look, but there was a bit of a hill so he was struggling.

So we parked our van and helped him get it into a parking spot!

Another EV charging story. I’m at the Marine Drive Superstore charging the little EV when this Chevy Bolt with Washington plates pulls up to charge. It’s an older couple in their late 60’s to early 70’s. They have a couple of bikes on a hitch. Anyway, this isn’t the first time they’ve been to Canada. They usually bike up here from the Seattle area. I was like, WTF? Anyway, the husband is trying to activate the charger, but there’s no cell service. I tell him to turn on airplane mode then turn it off. Sometimes that helps reset shit. Ol’ stubborn guy says he’s going to restart the phone. Long story short, he can’t get it to work. They’re not desperate yet, as they have about 25% battery left. I tell the wife I have all 4 cards needed up here in Canada to activate charging stations. I use one of my other cards to start the charger. Wife’s really appreciative but asshole husband just walks away. Cranky old fart, lol.

Why some people are like that, I don’t know.

Went to drop off my daughter at school and saw two Caucasian kids grab some Asian kid's baseball cap and playing keep away. Shit brings me back.

I let it happen for a few mins, secretly routing for the kid to get it back himself. Wasn't entirely sure if they were friends playing around or not either, so did nothing. Asian kid starts to get irritated and threw a few lightweight punches at the kids back. Made me proud inside, but honestly, it was weak sauce.

About that point, I had about enough. Didn't want things to get too serious, cause he'd likely get knocked out. So I stood right behind the white kid as he was running backwards and he slammed into me. I took the kid's cap back, handed it back. He gave me a wide eyed look and I gave him a nod. Honestly, I might have even had a tear in my eye, situations like that was a common place growing up.

Hopefully he'll offer a helping hand to someone in need in the future.

Can't blame others. When my dad got his new care a few years back the dealer told him specifically not to jump start another person's car coz it could damage the electric components in his car.

That's what fuses are for. Not to mention, not all cars in the line-up are new.

Did the dealer also tell your dad not to help people push their cars off to the side?

Went to Shoppers Drug Mart to get PC Decadent Chocolate Chip Cookies that were on sale for $1.99. Plus 800 PC Points for every $2.00 of that stuff. Anyway, there was a limit of 4, so I got a mixed variety and on my way home, I went to visit the wife at the cemetery. I've always wanted to do something for the workers there. I see them every day and they wave and say hi, each time we cross paths. They're hard workers, too. Well, when I got out of the car, it dawned on me. Cookies! SO, I handed them the cookies. The look on one of the guys was precious. I guess nobody does anything nice for these workers. The look of, "Wow," was worth it. I felt good. Made my day.

I have a stash of cookies in my garage. I hand them out to the garbage truck drivers when I happen to be out back when they show up. I bring cookies to the stamp auctions. It's amazing - the power of cookies, lol.

I get them when they're two bucks. Everything from Dare Maple Leaf cookies to Fig Newtons. Now that summer is over and it isn't hot, I can leave a few packages in the car to spread some cookie joy and happiness............

Crossing guards and traffic flaggers.

This happened a week or so ago. I was at the Shine Auto Wash on Gilley and Rumble. I just got out of the car wash and was taking the tape off the front passenger windshield wiper (vertical at rest) and plastic condom from the rear wiper. And, retracted (or the opposite of) the side view mirrors, 'cause cheap car. Anyway next to me was this gorgeous Jeep SUV. Black and all shiny. It was owned by a very old couple. They were wiping and buffing the vehicle. I commented on how nice the car looked. The wife was like all smiles and proudly tells me how they've had it since new. I then remembered something I usually do when I'm at the clean up area. I gave them a few individually packaged hand wipes. The kind you get at cheap restaurants. I told them to use it on their wipers. I told them how it would be a shame to smear all that gunk on the wiper blades onto the clean windshield. He wiped the rubber of the blade and couldn't believe how dirty it was. He was so thankful. I said, "Next time you're at a restaurant take a few with you." Nothing like putting smiles on old people.

It's been a while.............. pandemic. Nuff said.

Anyway, another charging station story. I was at Grand Villa Casino charging at the upstairs spot. Went in to redeem my free Chow Item via My Konami rewards. Played a little. When I decided I had enough exposure to Covid, I got back to the station to find the other charger had its plug barely hanging onto the holster. Upon closer inspection, the plug had a Tesla adapter still connected to it. I pulled it off and took it to security. I don't think those things are cheap. Anyway, security guard was surprised anyone would go out of their way to report it. Long story short, I just checked my dashcam footage, albeit two days later. And, I now know who's car it is. The car is a red Model X or Y (same difference). Plate number was, get this.......... "BTS." Anyway, if you happen to know the owner, let them know the adapter is with security at Grand Villa Casino.
