| Electric Shavers: Whats a good brand?
Hey Guys,
The regular fusions aren't doing it any more. I go through like one cartridge every 2-3 weeks.
In the market for a electric shaver, but I have no idea where to look, what to look for, or which brands are the best or crap.
If you use an electric shaver, what brand is it? and where did you buy it. I'm down to buying on the internet, though i'd prefer local..

i've personally used philips (3 circular blades) and a conventional braun one (a flat shaver with mesh on top)... from my experience i'd say the philips > braun because you dont have to do the same area 3 to 4 times to get the spots you want. but still, nothing beats a manual shaver.
your best bet would be checking out london drugs since they have a decent selection, and then buy online if its cheaper

I'm looking at LD online. They seem to have a decent selection...
Question: I have a goatee - something similar to will smith's lol. how do u keep that with a shaver that has 3 circular blades. its very easy with the manual shave. and i also need a shaver, where i can maintain the goatee ( trim it etc..)

fyi disposable cartridges are only supposed to be good for like 5 shaves, so if your getting 2-3 weeks consider yourself lucky.
I have a very thick beard and i electric shavers are completely useless for me, i have a high end philishave, used it for maybe 2 mos before tossed it. I find electrics dont cut as close and i get way more irritation from having to go over the same spot over and over.
again maybe its just me cause i have a thick beard, but i find disposible razors are the best, closest shave, least irritation, fastest...

You'll never go wrong with Braun. I've never tried anything else but I hear good reviews from Panasonic users too.

I think mine's just a base Remington and I've had it for years, still does the job perfectly

brawn. there is a model that self-cleans in a charging station that looks pretty cool.
my cousin from HK was here during the summer and customs broke his shaver during a luggage search at YVR. he looked at prices at walmart and he said his model was cheaper there than at home in HK!?! he had a short trip to the US and when he came back he said it was more expensive in the states  , so he ended up finally buying it here.
i have an old dinosaur philips that i've used for almost 20 years now. back then i was told to go with the top model because the lower versions were built cheap... i guess they were right because aside from the rechargeable battery needing replacement, it's been good to me. but cleaning it is a bitch

I got a Braun from HK when I was there last time. Pretty damn close shave. Gotta love the German precision.

Panasonic! Super close shave, no irritation after the break in period. Panasonics are harder to find locally, I think Sears still sells them. I lucked out and just upgraded to a newer $250 Panasonic from Richmond Costco for only $100.

anyone switch over from manual to electric?
im scared... had one electric years ago and it irritated my skin a lot.
but i find with manual i go through a lot of expensive blades and i shave less because i get lazy

I've heard good things about the Panasonic ones too. They have a few at Fry's down in the States.

Granted, I don't have a lot of thick facial hair, so it works about the same for me.

Get those 3 and pick up a bulk pack of razor blades off ebay for under $10 and you're set. I recommend against using Feather blades during your first run because those things are sharp as hell. You'll cut your face up like crazy if you use those on your first try  | |

I recommend Panasonic! closest shave I've had with an electric. Can't be 13,000 rpm shaving power!
I got mine from Futureshop of all places. You can order Panasonic shavers from Sears as well.

Guys keep in mind that there is an adjustment period when switching to electric. For the first few weeks your skin may be irritated but it will pass and your skin will get used to the close shave if u keep it up. If u stop however then u r back to square one.
I've used a few trimmers, a low end Braun, mid range Phillips, and a low and high end Panasonic. The cheap Braun constantly irritated my skin and never got any better, the Phillips was okay but didn't really impress me, I found that it had a hard time cutting some of my short but thicker facial hair. Both Panasonics were great, the newer one being amazing. Very close shave, no irritation after the first two weeks. My first one went 2 years without changing the blades before I gave it away and got a new one. The new one is a lot sharper out of te box, faster motor, new curved blade design. I find that I have to shave every few days or my hair gets too long/thick. With 4-5 days I can still use the shaver but with a week plus I have to whip out the mini clippers and trim my hairs first.
