| Best Winter car for cheap?
Looking to get a beater for the winter, I have some ideas...I don't need it to last longer than the winter though. Don't care too much how many miles on it, rust (unless it's really bad). 4WD is preferred, or something fun to drive in RWD.
I want to keep it under $2,000.
What say you?
I've always wanted an old Pathfinder, they seem to be around this range, anyone had one? Problems?

Sweet, I think I'll still go for a pathfinder...I've also though of a Talon TSI! I drove one once as a loaner and it was pretty damn awesome, and they do go for cheap...
Maybe a 4Runner but I wouldn't mind keeping in the Nissan family
Accords are a good choice too...

Best car in my opinion which is both practical, great in pretty much all weather conditions and is relatively 'fun' to drive is a '92-2000 Honda Civic hatch (EG or EK).
- low horsepower with no torque
- very light
- small or skinny tires
- Automatic makes it even easier
I had a '96 EK automatic that was absolutely unstoppable in any condition. Rain, sleet, snow, Ice whatever mother nature threw at it, it would just trudge right along without a worry in the world. My newer '03 is no match for the older Civics.

pre-1996 Subaru Legacy Wagon
If you can throw in an extra G or so, you can get the newer body 96-99 Legacy/Outback

lots of great suggestions, but no one has mentioned that you still need SNOW TIRES even if you have 4WD/AWD.

I'm actually picking up a mid 90's Land Rover Discovery... it's a bit more than $2000 but I can sell it in the spring for pretty much what I bought it for.
