At first I read the thread title as "Defragging your Windows in Vancouver's gay winter" lol.

drunkrussian 10-27-2009 07:42 PM

i've used windex etc. on car windshields before and it leaves smear marks I find. I bought a glass cleaner for cars from canadian tire and used it on the inside to get the inproperly applied rainx off for now. Car windows are now shiny as fuck lol...not sure what i'll do next...too scared to try rainx again!

PS
Applying anything to the inner windshield of an integra hatchback is one of the best and most dangerous stretches ever

GabAlmighty 10-27-2009 08:00 PM

Open your windows, drive

SkinnyPupp 10-27-2009 08:04 PM

To all idiots and ignorant people: You don't have to use COLD when you use A/C. Turn on your A/C, set it to WARM, and you will have instantly defogged windows, and warm air.

illicitstylz 10-27-2009 08:23 PM

for rain-x, you shouldn't be using it on tinted windows I heard.

I use it for my windshield only (5 other windows are tinted) and make sure your window is clean, apply a light film, wait to dry( 10 minutes i'd say), then gently buff to get rid of hazing.

hk20000 10-27-2009 08:29 PM

This morning I couldn't see jack out the rear....front yeah use A/C + warm air.

What is the quickest way to defrost that? warm air doesn't reach the back and the heater wires don't work fast enough. I just had to gtfo of there.

CorneringArtist 10-27-2009 08:43 PM

Until I found my rear defog, I just used a small towel I had lying around. It's stupid to do from a practical standpoint, but it got my window clear enough to see out.

Leopold Stotch 10-27-2009 10:23 PM

i find this an issue too

on my old cars i could blast the heat and the windows would defog

now in my G35 i have to use A/C, which doesn't bug me too much, cept the air is slightly less warm and my asian genes want me to turn it off.

illicitstylz 10-27-2009 10:25 PM

plus it's harder on your car especially in the colder mornings to start up with AC/warm/defroster on

cool...kinda scared to try rainx and have to clean it off again, but i might try your method later

also isn't the tinting thing only for the outside rainx - the one that helps with repelling rain away from the outside of your windshield? Cause isn't tint put on the outside??? how could putting something on the inside affect it? Or am I wrong here?

jack_dangerous 10-27-2009 10:44 PM

put a piece of cardboard on the outside of the window

i'm pretty sure the tint is applied to the inside of the window/windshield since it's a lot less resistant to the weather . . plus I saw the installer install from the inside for my tint

You failed to mention WHY this works.

When you turn on the A/C... there's an air dryer in the system that (hold the phone!) DRIES THE AIR that comes out of the vents... which when directed at the windows, dries them up. Holy shit.

As to the original poster... how about we try and help you fix the rear defroster grid then... what kind of car is this you're working on??

How does A/C work with warm air? and what does A/C do to make the window defogging faster?

The cold air coming out from the AC passes through the heater core, thus the air becomes warm.

The AC makes the windows defog faster than simply hot air without A/C because the AC de-humidifies and dries out the air.

If you have AC in the car, AC+Hot Air+Closed Windows is best. Without AC, Hot Air + slightly open window works best.

If there are no scratches/breaks in the defrost grid (i.e. the thin black lines) on your rear window, then it could either be the connection between the wire and the grid, or an electrical issue (e.g. loose wire or harness, blown fuse, etc.)

In order of easiest to spot and fix, to most difficult to spot and fix:

Check the grid first. If it's scratched, use that repair kit posted earlier.

If the grid is completely intact, then check the fuse. Replace fuse if blown.

If fuse is good, check the wires going to the grid. If it's come loose/broken off, find a repair epoxy designed for that or take it to an RS Sponsor.

If the wire going to the grid is fine, it's an electrical issue, take it to an RS Sponsor to hunt down where it's loose.

what worked for me was going to daiso at aberdeen and picking up some charcoal thing that removes moisture in the air.

left that in the car and it seriously helped.

$2.99 too! heheh and it lasts for 6 months.

if you guys go, its in the laundry area.

and boom windows dont fog no where near as bad

Is that the same as the activated charcoal deoderizer stuff? Might give that a try.

Easiest thing first, if the orange light doesnt light up when pressed once, borrow a known good one and try it. This happened to me before and fixed it.

Yup, borrow another button from someone and see if that fixes it. If it does then get one from a junk yard.

well i took a look and my back lines are def. cut off so i do need that canadian tire paint kit to fix it. However, it doesn't seem normal that the button doesn't even stay pressed in. Is this normal? anyone know?
