To give you an idea, the Bold 9500 costs about $3300 HKD here. So about $450 CAD. Compare that to $650 + taxes = $730+ at Rogers.com.

Phones are much cheaper here, eddy89 is certainly not speaking from experience. So I'm not sure why he's offering advice.

But you will not get a warranty from the manufacturer. Most sellers offer 30 days on their stuff.

Actually, I will have to agree with eddy89 with this one. BlackBerry smartphones are more expensive in Hong Kong if you purchase from the cell phone carrier stores. From what I recall, only CSL sells BlackBerry phones without a contract. If you purchase from the flagship store you also get a two year warranty.

But if you choose to purchase from other stores that aren't from the carrier stores, those are a bit cheaper I believe, but not really off by much in comparison to specialty cell phone stores in Vancouver. With those you would have to worry if the PIN is already locked or unreleased.

http://www.price.com.hk/product.php?p=107441

nowaday "water product" shops offer 7 days exchange and 1 year warranty
cell phone providers and carrier stores offers 14days exchange and 2-3 yrs warranty.

I bought a Sony Ericsson phone from a store in Hong Kong a few years ago and noticed the price wasn't as cheap as I thought it would be comparing it to the prices here.

Imo u are better off just buying it here.

price.com.hk isnt the best resource
prices at sin tat can change anytime of day. It can only give u a rough idea
Berries here are aroudn the same price as HK, that is comparing to the open market of unlocked berries in Vancouver vs HK pricing.

regardless, phones are STILL cheaper in HK than here, the only exception i believe is the iPhone

Why would you buy from a carrier in Hong Kong, if you're not in Hong Kong? Of course they are going to cost the same.

The whole point of buying phones in HK is to buy imported phones, not intended for the HK market. This way, you get a brand new phone that is exactly the same, but at a much lower cost.

Do what asian xl recommended, check out price.com.hk. I also use this online store as a baseline for prices. They are cheaper than anyone else, and I have never used them, but as a guideline for prices, they work.

Once you know your price, head to Sin Tat mall in Mong Kok and go buy your phone from one of the hundreds of stores in there. After a while, you'll probably have a place you go to regularly for phones.

I agree with what SkinnyPupp has to say, except it might be a different situation with BlackBerry phones if you plan to use them with their BlackBerry Internet Service.

The only real concern with buying a phone that's not from a carrier store is that in order to use the BIS service, you need a phone that's "authentic" and does not have their PIN registered or locked/banned. In that unfortunate case that the BlackBerry is registered/locked/banned, then it would render it "gimped" as you can't use the PUSH services associated with BIS. I mean, you are getting a BlackBerry for their PUSH services, right?

Sin Tat is a cellphone mall, but NOT the cheapest place to buy your cellphone. Why? coz rent is expensive, a lot of stores are owned by 1 owner, and many people got scammed when they claim the phones are 100% new. I would stay away unless you really have no idea what you want.

Ap Liu Street is another shopping paradise. Phones are generally cheaper than Sin Tat, but not that much. The good thing is you can bargain if you have the guts.

Online Stores are great. Very competitive price and you arrange pick up at MTR station. They don't accept credit card or offer any free accessories.

Cell phone carriers can give you a really low price and a lot of rebates if you sign a contract with them.

I just joined Peoples (China Mobile), unlimited GPRS+wifi, 1000minutes, 18 months, $110
hkd per months. $600cash rebates, $100 parknshop coupon, $400dollar off any cell
phone, and one free mobile porn channel login!!!

If you do the math here...it comes to $50hkd per month over the 18 months period, that's like $8cdn

Price.com.hk prices there are not always the most updated, but a lot of online stores frequently update their price there.

uWants or other forums. If you have the time, it's not difficult to pick up some mint used phones.

if CDN is staying at 7.3hkd :1cdn, then HK is always cheaper

^had an iphone, didnt care for any of the apps other than weather, stocks, maps, email, all the stuff that the phone came with. hate the on screen keyboard big time. so a BB is pretty much more suited for me. also love the build quality of the bold.

same here. For an average people, you don't need to check email every fucking minute. You pay $400hkd to read junk mail and delete facebook notification, that's silly.

The people who truly need a Blackberry do not want one because they would be on-call 24/7.

I don't have one and I intend to keep it that way.

Sintat is only good if you know exactly what you want, or you know people that frequent the stores. You'll also realize that rarely will you ever get the 'super low prices' that are posted on the windows

Not only that, any other phone supports push notification now anyway. If I wanted to, I could use it. And the idea of a proprietary network, and having phones just get "locked out" for whatever reason is just stupid.

Both Opera and SkyFire have their own compression now anyway. If I wanted my images to look like crap while browsing, I could do that too

the email function.

have several different emails attached to the bb, being able to reply to them with 1 device w/o carrying a laptop or needing to reach a terminal is awesome! and having a keyboard where my fingers can actually type with the buttons

other than that, i dont use the other 90% of the functions on the bb.
