I should add the turbo still looks almost new I dont think it lasted any more then 1000km's |
My buddies down in the states buy those kits.. the first thing they do is throw out the crappy Turbo (or they use it for funny shit like turboing lawn mowers and stuff) then they buy a half decent turbonetics turbo or something similar... Its a good base... but your better off finding someone who is selling an almost complete kit and finishing it off, the last thing you want is that turbo to ingest itself... and ruin a perfectly good motor |
Its the Chinacharger kits! I have seen a couple used with good luck but not running anything more then 6-8psi of boost which is peanuts, especially on a 2.4L motor. Its an offshore product most likely built in a plant that does not meet or exceed ISO9001 standards. As mentioned by previous posters the kit may be something good to work on if you replace the turbo but if you are set on having a cheap turbo kit be ready to rape your engine or replace turbos frequently, also I think most of the turbos they use in those kits are a journal style bearing which is slightly outdated technology but still ok. Just remember its always buyer beware you get what you pay for and a turbo is something I wouldn't recommend cheaping out on it can be a huge bill in the end. |
