My mom got me a can from a shop in Chinatown somewhere along Pender and Gore to Pender and Main -I don't know the name. You have to ask for it as it is hidden behind the counter. Sells for $3.xx and the production date on my can is Aug. 13, 2009 with an expiry date of Aug. 12, 2012.

Good shit, I requested my aunt's "gung yan" to open a can up for me every night when I was back in HK this past summer.
But AFAIK (or what I heard on the radio years back), Canada banned the importation of it, since it no longer met the revised Canada regulations/requirements for food imports.
It exists elsewhere, just not in Canada.
(if the above has already been mentioned, sorry - I haven't been following this thread until now... it really is EPIC FOOD FOR WINNERS)

The black bean fried dace are ban from export in China, because the high level of malachite green. This product will not be available anywhere in the world (except China and Hong Kong) for at least another 4-5 years.

For the people who use to love this canned black bean dace fish like me, it is now back. They are selling it at Chinatown. I just had a can for dinner tonight.
Edit: It cost about 3 something a can now compared to under a dollar back then. Will try to get picture. Before I posted this I didn't even see the "mission" !SG proposed.

When I went to HK, my aunt gave me a dozen because I mentioned that it was pretty expensive here. I still have about 6 cans haha. So good with steamed rice.

There appears to be a replacement for the Dace fish.
I bought a can of fried sardines with black bean at Teng's Supermarket on Victoria, and it tasted 90% similar to the Dace with black beans.
It was in a blue can, with white text IIRC.

^ You can eat the bones in canned salmon, sardines, mackerel etc.
How is that ghetto? You get more calcium too.

The black bean can is the one on the right hand side with the red chinese characters. The can on the left side is apparently a fried fish with no black bean. I have yet to open the can to verify what the difference is.
If I go to the store again next time I will take a picture of the store and the price of each can.
