I have first hand experience on this.

Basically, if you don't have a BIS-specific plan in HK you won't be able to use BBM because a blackberry-data-specific portal is needed. You can browse with a normal data plan, but BBM, push e-mail, applications won't work.

If your phone/pin is already linked to a service provider (i.e. Rogers), you can still use BBM in HK, if and only if the SIM card you put in has a BIS plan activated.

The only limitation that djalf mentioned is actually to link up your email accounts to your phone. In which case you need to fully "release" the pin from one carrier to be able to register the push email service from another carrier.

Unlocking the phone will NOT void the warranty. Why would RIM put the option of unlocking it thru the options menu?

unlocking the phone will NOT void the warranty as some phones can be reverted back to retail settings

but no, there is no option in the menu for unlocking, you have to enter the correct keys to get to the network lock settings

I'm having push email problems AGAIN, ugh

My email's aren't getting pushed, just like when I first got the phone.

I've re-sent the service books, still no luck.

I've done a battery pull, and for the first 5 minutes, I will get push email, after that, they don't come anymore.

Anyone know a fix to this?

Recently, all i've installed onto the phone were a few themes, connect 4, and the battery pull program.

This is a rogers problem I think. I can't send any SMS and calls take forever before they start dialing....

Regardless of problems being reported all over north america, rogers is having problems. Ever since yesterday, my berry has been dropping calls, losing signal, going from 3g to edge and even to gprs until I get the SOS or no signal on my phone. Some calls have not come through and I get the whocalled sms about 10 mins after.

My emails are also not being pushed instantly anymore and sometimes I don't get them at all. Something's up for sure. I saw an article that said there were email outtages on blackberries reported yesterday, but I'm not at home right now and can't remember where I saw it. Will post back when I have access to a pc.

Just now I had to wait to access RS cause I couldn't get a stable 3g signal.

everything that has happened to me in the past two days has been in Kits and in Burnaby, by Brentwood Mall. neither place would drop more than 2 bars while on 3G before yesterday.

as promised, here's the article I read about earlier. this is the CNET report. other websites have reported the same:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-10417374-94.html

so yes, expect email delays.

didnt work for my gf. she just ordered it 3 days ago and they said no credit cause her plan that they gave her has $5 recurring credit. that $5 recurring credit was part of the plan that was worked out for renewal. it had nothing to do with the pricing of the phone. sucks but teach her to stick with rogers
