We had a good set of winter tires installed, pretty popular brand/model. These tires were incredible in snow, they'd push a front heavy truck up a hill without spinning.

Since money is a concern when it comes to tires, we kept running the winters for a while after the snow stopped falling.
What we discovered is that the truck is scary to drive in the rain with the winter tires installed, at half throttle going up a hill, the rear wheels would not stop spinning. If you let off and got back into the gas, the result would be the same.
This was all on tires that still had excellent tread, they were a maximum of three months old, they would let loose turning in an intersection on a less than drenched road.

I've concluded that winter tires are really only designed to tackle snow, which makes sense, it's why they are called winter tires. They are satisfactory on dry roads, but they seemingly turn into hard plastic when it rains.

Your tires sucked then. Mine are great in the rain, no problems with traction even in a torrential downpour.

6 degrees and cold in the same sentence. I'm at a loss for words

My kid still has football practice, last night was pretty damm cold standing around for 2 hours but I'll still take it over rain. This weather has actually been really great IMO, a nice break from the non-stop rain we normally get.

EmperorIS 11-14-2014 08:38 AM

it was 21 degrees in Hong Kong and everyone busted out their North Face Bomber jackets

BoostedBB6 11-14-2014 09:01 AM

Washed the IS yesterday.....that was interesting. Just glad I have a hot water pressure washer for weather like this.
Think I need a winter beater!

That's how it is in Asia, we're Canadian so we're used to it.
I remember a few years ago I was walking around HK/Taiwan in May and it was freakin' hot and humid. Mid 20+ degrees easily.
I was wearing a sleeveless and shorts. In HK there was women wearing full length fur coats and I also saw a guy walking around in the Taiwan night market in a North Face bomber.

They were looking at me like :fulloffuck: and I was looking at them like :seriously:

The opposite also applies though. My gf is Taiwanese so when we went to Asia in August I was fucking cooking in the heat. I had to run into every store that had AC, and she's all like "oh this is nice and warm"

Doubl3_H 11-16-2014 10:56 AM

Holy fuck it was bad last night
-35 with the wind chill, felt like my eyes were gonna freeze up

tegra7 12-09-2014 07:31 AM

So windy this morning. Felt my car being pushed around on the highway.

Tone Loc 12-09-2014 07:37 AM

Left my winter beater parked on the street, as I took my dad's car for a 16 hour (overtime! woo woo) shift at work.

I happened to forget about street cleaning and the sweeper went around my car. I honestly figured I'd get towed but at $640/day I took the chance.

Then proceeded to get a nasty note under my windshield from an irate neighbour because it was "annoying" to see all the dirt on the ground around my car because I forgot to move it.

People need to mind their own fucking business.

mb_ 12-09-2014 08:31 AM

Lucky for you. I was in the middle of a shower lol. On the up side the new flashlight I just purchase can't in handy and using a 5.5 screen phone to surf the internet isn't so bad.
