I have a couple of friends in Burnaby that have been without power since 10AM and not expected to have power until 8PM.

Unless you have an electric water heater, then it's gonna be really freakin' cold.

1st world struggles ITT
sorry if your car or property was damaged
but if you're power's been out for 12 hours+ then crash a buddy's house with power, or play board games with candles around, or use it as an opportunity to get some quality sleep...or RS meat
be glad it's not over a weekday or winter

Some houses use a gas hot water tank. That's what we have at home and we were able to have hot water during the power outage.

Also, how is an electric water heater going to help during a power outage?

Hydro ETA, midnight. Just went grocery shopping yesterday morning. :okay:

punkwax 08-30-2015 10:37 AM

If your tank is properly insulated and adequately sized, you should have warm water for at least a day or two without power.

Groot 08-30-2015 11:11 AM

Vancouver at 8pm? Fucking kidding me

Euro7r 08-30-2015 11:18 AM

My buddy did $200 of grocery shopping Friday and his place had power outage. I told him to eat everything before it turns bad. Open his fridge and shows me his case of 36 pack yogurt and ask how the hell to eat all this LOL :troll:.

MG1 08-30-2015 11:59 AM

Don't fuck with mother nature. Respect her!

Been 24 hours and counting since my area lost power (Kerr and Kent) Good thing I didn't buy groceries yet. The hallway is pitch black I thought I was in real life Left4dead. lol.

Tricities is 12:30am!

Soundy 08-30-2015 01:14 PM

I think of the recurring advice that people should be prepared to be without power and without outside help for up to 72 hours in case of a major disaster... then I look at all the whingeing and bleating here and on my Facebook feed when people's power is out for just a day... and I realize that our society is doomed.

320icar 08-30-2015 01:35 PM

Lol I know right. I would have used the opportunity to bust out the camping gear and make some ghetto non-perishable camping delicacies

The lack of 4-way stop awareness is not endemic to Richmond. It's an affliction that is suffered throughout the GVRD.

We should just do what Abbotsford does and install roundabouts EVERYWHERE. #roundabouts #stupididea

I've heard some areas are not expected to have power back until tomorrow afternoon, now. Marine from Boundary to Victoria Drive, all the traffic lights were still out as of 2pm, as well.

Hondaracer 08-30-2015 03:28 PM

if there was ever a major earthquake some people aint gonna have power for WEEKS, not days, like soundy said this should be a wake up call

HonestTea 08-30-2015 05:15 PM

FINALLY GOT POWERRRRRRRRRRR!

I think some areas have power already (mine was restored earlier this afternoon, I'm in "downtown" poco). But all the businesses in the area are still dark, as are the lights in intersections. Not looking forward to going to pick up my brother later...

TypeRNammer 08-30-2015 05:40 PM

Still waiting for power....Marine Drive and Kerr area...

EDIT: actually back up now

Not just at lights, but regular 4 way stop signs.. People don't stop and just guns it. E45th & Elliott and E45th & Tyne are very bad on a regular basis.
