It's so windy outside and you think standing on the wrong side of a bridge with huge waves was smart? He's lucky he didn't get carried away into the water and die. Fucking moron
We had no power for 9 hours yesterday. Large parts of Nanaimo still don't have power. To make matters worse the pumping station for water is down so everyone has been told not to use water.

Something to keep in mind for anyone with an in-home water treatment system and including UV disinfection is that you aren't getting that same level of disinfection with the power out. You'd be amazed how many people forget, and then wonder why their UV system is in alarm once the power goes back on. Usually a flush with some bleach and a cleaning of the UV sleeve is enough to get back running clean.

"At first, I was stuck with some other people and it didn't seem like it was safe enough to cross, and I thought, 'Well, the storm is going to die down in about an hour and we'll just wait it out,'" Perry said.
He said he walked further out to get away from the break. Meanwhile, RCMP were onshore shouting for people on the pier to sprint to safety.
Everyone did, except Perry.
"I guess the police showed up to encourage the other people to run through, but I didn't know ... then I wasn't close enough to make it a make across in time," he said. "It didn't seem like it was safe enough to cross."
Eventually, a section of the pier tore away from the rest and left a gap over the ocean.

I used to sell water treatment products including whole house UV and this guy definitely knows what he is talking about
Big Ups to the Hydro crews working all day and night
My area lost power at 12:55pm. I took a walk up the street and saw Hydro crews right away. They working on a section of line a tree had decided to slump over on and hug. I was wondering if we were one of the first grids to go down. I walked down toward the other end of the street and saw a firetruck blocking the street with yellow tape. Figured it might have been related to a couple of house demolitions and then I saw the snapped live wire laying on the ground.
'Oh shit'
Didn't get power till 9:45pm. About an hour later, while watching TV, I lost half the power in my suite (my building overlaps 2 grids). Suddenly I hear a loud boom just outside my building. Car alarms going off like mad. It came from the area the hydro crews has been working earlier. My fridge stayed alive for the night but my heater did not.
I'm not sure what caused the bang as I'm no expert but wouldn't be surprised if there was a surge of juice from everyone in the area turning everything on at the same time.
Mother in law is in Duncan still without power. Many gas stations had no power yesterday and are packed all day with people filling jerry cans for generators. One major highway intersection south of Duncan is still without power and is 4 way procedure. You know how that goes.
Also on Thursday 330pm my wife and kids were headed south just south of Duncan. Everyone was stopped on the highway thanks to trees coming down and another big one came down on a pickup truck 30 ft ahead.

Spoiler!
Yesterday was an absolute gong show getting home (Duncan) from Nanaimo. Took 5.5 hours to get home.
This morning and afternoon were better but still took over 90 minutes each way (normally a 40-50 minute drive).
Every intersection between Nanaimo and Duncan was out of power for all 3 trips and no one directing traffic.
This was early on in the adventure (well, like 1.5 hours into it). Most of the other footage of me trying to get home didn't turn out well because it got dark and my cam sucks, but there were lots more trees and debris. Or it was me stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
a few trees were uprooted in Burnaby by Deer Lake but now it's sunny.

Did anyone else hear the loud claps of thunder near Lougheed Mall, on Friday morning around 11am? Positively charged cloud to ground strikes. Those suckers were loud.

The rain acted as my alarm clock this morning. Unfortunately for me, it woke me up an hour earlier than my regular alarm would. It was coming down so hard I couldn’t fall back asleep..
Made the kids blueberry pancakes for breaky and packed them a hell of a lunch though!

Been sunny for so long I almost forgot you have to treat walking on the sidewalk like walking through a warzone here. Gotta watch out for the giant puddles on the road next to the sidewalk and walk strategically or a car gonna blast through and set off the puddle grenade.
