So......... how's the pier in White Rock doing? I hear they rebuilt it.

Did they make it stronger and stop boats from mooring there during stormy weather?

It's like the story of the three pigs and the big bad wolf. "I'll puff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down." Made of straw, then wood, now stone (concrete)?

Good thing nobody got killed or seriously injured back then.

Anyway.....................

punkwax 09-24-2020 10:13 AM

Yes the pier is repaired and no more boats. https://www.whiterockcity.ca/402/Pier-Camera

StylinRed 09-24-2020 10:29 AM

Aww the boats were nice daamn last time I was there was in 2015

Hondaracer 09-24-2020 11:13 AM

God I hate this weather.. as with every Vancouver summer you briefly forget how shit the weather gets when you get these stretches of rain.

Makes me more seriously consider moving to the Okanagan

underscore 09-24-2020 11:28 AM

If it makes you feel any better it's cold and rainy here right now too. A huge tree got blown over at the beach by my place last night, kids were hanging out in the branches today like a fort.

No better there. Cold as F during winter with plenty of snow.

CivicBlues 09-24-2020 12:26 PM

I'll take a month of straight rain if we don't have to deal with a whole 'nother 2 weeks of smoke.

And yes, I know last week's smoke wasn't our fault

Places like Penticton and whatnot have far less overall precipitation though no?

underscore 09-24-2020 01:27 PM

~1/4 the precipitation of Vancouver, a few degrees colder in the winter but it's less humid. There's usually fuck all for snow (a lot of it barely lasts the day) and 1-2 weeks that are actually cold, the rest of the time it's in the single digit negatives.

It's all relative to what you're used to though. After spending a month in northern Alberta working in -45 plus wind chill with snow up to my eyeballs I walked out of the Kelowna airport in January in a t shirt lol. Then I had to try not to be one of those "tHiS iSn'T rEaL cOlD" guys for a bit til I got used to it again.

Hondaracer 09-24-2020 01:41 PM

I’ve grown a bit soft for the cold but could do without the rain

Was looking at properties in Naramata, maybe one day

underscore 09-24-2020 01:53 PM

Naramata is a nice area. The summer heat can get a bit much but you can just go jump in the lake.

Hondaracer 09-24-2020 02:14 PM

Yea we’ve spent quite a bit of time in Penticton the last 3-4 summers really grown on us

I'm a born and raised Calgarian, having just moved out here approx 4 years ago.

I find it colder here in BC. My body aches. My hands get sore. This humid cold shit is not for me.

In Calgary if its -40c I usually wear jeans, a t-shirt, and keep a jacket in the car just in case whereas here I'm bundled up with a freaking scarf/gloves/15 layers and am still shivering.

:crazy2:

Wasn't it you that was giving me a hard time a few years ago because I was considering moving to Hawaii or California because I hated the rain and lack of sunshine here? You said it wasn't that bad here... LOL

There's maybe 2-3 months of nice weather here, rest of the year, it's just depressing. I never vacation in the summer but I go somewhere sunny at least twice the rest of the year.

Hondaracer 09-24-2020 04:05 PM

lol i dunno maybe.. some years its not so bad but when it goes from relative summer type weather to a dreary grey downpour, definately sucks lol

and I've lived my entire life in the lower mainland

Obsideon 09-24-2020 04:42 PM

It definitely sucks but you gotta put it into perspective.

I made the mistake of vacationing in Hong Kong and Taiwan during peak Summer... never again. So damn hot and humid ... walking through the night markets with all the oil frying and grilling smoke ... felt like there was no point to even shower cuz I was instantly wet and sticky again the minute I step out. I couldn't even tell when the water from the shower dried and my sweat started poring out again lol ...

Think of it this way, in the cold you can layer on more clothing, but when it's like a sauna 24/7 it's not like you can walk around butt naked... even then it's still too hot lol ... at times I needed to buy a can of pop just to roll around my face and neck haha

It's not the cold but the god damn rain all the time for me.

6793026 09-24-2020 09:18 PM

yup, i never ever went back to HK since 1998 as it was just impossible to enjoy life there in the summer.

Seeing teens wearing full blown suit for work (eg// working at G2000 hahahha), i was like holy F....

Now i go in Dec for a month = T-shirt and a wind breaker... and people look at me weird but it's so chill.

been seeing the news that people are doing more with their yard space due to covid, patio heaters and fire pits flying off the shelves...you think that's the case here with the rain? i guess people building gazebos or putting up outdoor tents?

^ not too mad about that. I would be ok with one strong day of wind to wipe the trees clean of leaves so I don’t have to keep going back out there every day or two.

24 yard bags and 2 bins filled over the last week alone WutFace

Filled another 6 bags over the weekend plus the bin... super windy in south Surrey rn. Really hoping this wind spells the end of leaf collection season.

MG1 11-17-2020 10:12 AM

Holy shit, the winds just showed up here in North Burnaby. My wind chimes are going nuts. Almost as loud as aluminum pie plates, gulolol.

BTW, danned, did you ever get raped by that old neighbour of yours? old RS story/reference.........

Obsideon 11-17-2020 01:39 PM

My umbrella just inverted on me twice on my walk to work. Good times.
