Old Juan, you still got heat without power? |
Lost power at 11:30am and just got it back like 15 minutes ago. Did everyone's phone data suck balls with the outage or does Telus just suck? I literally had nothing the whole outage. It's always been shitty in my area but having full bars for phonecalls but absolutely no internet connection to check the BC Hydro website for 10 straight hours is pretty trash. |
Not cheap but these guys started designing this at Vancouver hack space. Uses windshield wiper tech and can handle 70 mph Winds. https://hedgehogumbrella.com/ |

Damn ... reading that some lady in South Surrey was killed yesterday from a falling tree due to storm !! https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...nd%2010%20a.m. |
I actually called Telus about that yesterday. It’s always been a problem for me. If we had a legit disaster we’d be fucked. It’s a problem. They know it’s a problem but they won’t do dick about it. The best thing is our phone call actually disconnected twice. She called back once and then probably just shrugged her shoulders and pretended to not know about the issue with the next person she talked to. |
^ that's why in my family, the Mrs. and I are on separate networks. Just in case one goes down. |
After the whole Rogers debacle a few years back, I always make sure we don't share the same network. |

I'm on Freedom and I had service. I used to have a land line and every time the power went out, I still had phone service. |

House was warm. Tankless heater connected to radiant floor heating. Food in freezers and fridges seemed okay. I have gas appliances, so could cook during outages. BBQ in the back patio is always an option. The Zojirushi Hybrid is awesome. Kept water piping hot. I'm seriously thinking of installing a whole house backup generator/inverter. Power outages that last over 8 - 10 hours, suck. Had three this year alone. What blows my mind is my whole area is out of power and my backyard neighbour has power. The block he lives on always has power. I don't think he's ever been out of power during storms. BC Hydro map shows all of North Burnaby with no power. Not him. Power to his house is not supplied undergound. It makes no sense. |
Just over 1 year later since this thread has been bumped. It's cold, wet, and very windy outside. |
I'm surprised the power didn't go out in my area (Garden Village in Burnaby) as it has become somewhat common to have it go out for us - usually 2-3 times a year now. My Amazon delivery box sure got blown around a lot in my driveway though - my wife will definitely watch the security footage for fun to see what happened. |
2 days ago in Chilliwack, it was so damn windy that branches were ripped from trees. One landed on a young mom and she tragically died! https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/1...in-chilliwack/ |
Jesus christ… see thats why there is no God. What did this woman do? Besides having bad judgement that she deserved death via tree. What about her kids now. Yikes….. traumatic for sure. |
Last night around 1:30 in South Surrey was brutal. We have a screen door on the window that endured all 5yrs without a hitch, last night it broke off. I had to go out in the middle of the night to take it off because it kept banging on the window. |
my gutter at the front of the house was pouring water like a waterfall yesterday... have to leave work early today while it's still bright out to investigate. other than that and the loud ass rain i could hear through the skylights, i slept like a baby last night. some of my friends said that the wind was so bad that they were awakened in the middle of the night. |
My car is parked on the street, and when I headed out this morning, there were a large number branches peppered everywhere on the street and around my car. I'm sure many of the branches had either been blown around and hit my car, or have fallen directly on my car. Fortunately so far, I haven't noticed any dents or paint damage, but some of those branches were reasonably big -- as thick (diameter-wise) as my pinky finger. |
Wind blew down an eight foot panel between my house and the neighbor. |
2am last night, I hear this loud beeping noise. one beep every 20 seconds. I'm still half asleep. wife tells me to go investigate. I stumble through a dark house using my phone flashlight. I immediately assume it's the smoke detector battery or something. Grab a stool, pull it off the ceiling. Nope that's not it. Then I realize maybe it's the CO detector. I go to where it normally is. It's gone. The christmas tree is plugged in instead. Took me a while to find it. I pull it out of the socket and it beeps 4 times. OH shit that's the CO warning. I tell my wife wake up, we gotta get out of the house. As she turns on the light to get dressed, we realize the lights don't work. Power's out. CO detector beeped 4 times because I pushed the "test" button when I first checked it. The single beep was because it had no power. Everyone's still alive, back to bed. And that's how we survived the big north van power outage of 2025. |
Lots of inflatable decorations now sitting in parks and deflated in the streets from overnight. |
My neighbour runs a daycare so they have a bunch of outdoor toys in their front yard. One September morning, I found their tent in my front yard: https://i.ibb.co/PsKKf78V/IMG-3896.png After reviewing the camera footage, I found out what happened the night before: Spoiler! |
Ikea tents love to jump. Its yours now. Finders keepers. |
