Lost power at 11:30am and just got it back like 15 minutes ago. Did everyone's phone data suck balls with the outage or does Telus just suck? I literally had nothing the whole outage. It's always been shitty in my area but having full bars for phonecalls but absolutely no internet connection to check the BC Hydro website for 10 straight hours is pretty trash.

Not cheap but these guys started designing this at Vancouver hack space. Uses windshield wiper tech and can handle 70 mph Winds. https://hedgehogumbrella.com/

I would have been fine with it being slow but it just said no internet connection the whole time so not sure what was going on there

I actually called Telus about that yesterday. It’s always been a problem for me. If we had a legit disaster we’d be fucked. It’s a problem. They know it’s a problem but they won’t do dick about it.
The best thing is our phone call actually disconnected twice. She called back once and then probably just shrugged her shoulders and pretended to not know about the issue with the next person she talked to.

Couldn't load the bchydro website (or anything else) to check status or anything. As soon as I drove to the store to get some lights (where the power was on) was able to use it, then when I got back home it shit the bed again for hours.

I'm on Freedom and I had service. I used to have a land line and every time the power went out, I still had phone service.

House was warm. Tankless heater connected to radiant floor heating. Food in freezers and fridges seemed okay. I have gas appliances, so could cook during outages. BBQ in the back patio is always an option. The Zojirushi Hybrid is awesome. Kept water piping hot.
I'm seriously thinking of installing a whole house backup generator/inverter. Power outages that last over 8 - 10 hours, suck. Had three this year alone. What blows my mind is my whole area is out of power and my backyard neighbour has power. The block he lives on always has power. I don't think he's ever been out of power during storms. BC Hydro map shows all of North Burnaby with no power. Not him. Power to his house is not supplied undergound. It makes no sense.
