12 dead 31 injured Texas US Army Base

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8345713.stm

cnn.com

The guy who did the killing is a Doctor! a Psychiatrist at that!

Quote:
Source: Gunman was U.S. Army major; also psychiatrist
thats pretty extreme, and to do it with just 2 hand pistols? must have been a great shot.

Quote:
Twelve people have been killed and 31 injured in a shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, the commander there has said.

Lt Gen Bob Cone said the shooter had been killed in the incident and two suspects arrested. All were American soldiers. The base is locked down.

Lt Gen Cone said the motive for the shooting was not known. One of the dead was a policeman, others were soldiers.

President Barack Obama described it as "a horrific outburst of violence".

US media reports have named the gunman as Major Malik Nadal Hasan. He was reportedly in his late 30s or early 40s and due to be sent on a mission to Iraq.

Speaking at a press conference in Washington, President Obama said: "It is difficult enough when we lose these brave men and women abroad, but it is horrifying that they should come under fire at an army base on US soil."
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, adding: "We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident."

Mr Obama said the White House was working with the Pentagon, FBI and Department of Homeland Security to make sure Fort Hood was secure.

Fort Hood, near the town of Killeen, is the largest US base in the world.

Home to about 40,000 US troops, the base lies between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles (97 km) from each city.

Lt Gen Cone said the shooting had begun at about 1330 (1930 GMT) at a personnel and medical centre at Fort Hood, where soldiers who are preparing to deploy go for last-minute medical check-ups.

He said the shooter, who had two handguns, had opened fire and "due to the quick response of the police forces, was killed".

Two more suspects were apprehended in an adjacent facility, he said, adding that some eyewitness accounts suggested there might have been more than one shooter.

A serviceman stationed at Fort Hood who asked to remain anonymous told the BBC: "I heard the emergency announcement over the speakers outside and saw people rushing to get indoors.

"In our office we're okay but we're hearing about the deaths. It's horrible and very shocking.

"We are still on lockdown. I am hearing that at least nine people may be dead. This is so terrible and frightening."

The BBC's Adam Brookes in Washington says units at Fort Hood are among those deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and some will have returned from there.

The base has a centre that deals with combat stress, our correspondent adds.

Hilary Shine, of the Killeen Fire Department told the BBC's News Channel Fort Hood was like a small city.

"It has schools, a hospital, a convenience store even. And it has a large daytime population - including civilians working on the base - with as many as 80,000 in this area during the daytime."

Local congressman John Carter, speaking to NBC News, said gunfire had erupted half an hour before a graduation ceremony was due to begin.

Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said in a statement: "I am shocked and saddened by today's outburst of violence at Fort Hood that has cost seven of our brave service members their lives and has gravely injured others.

"My heart goes out to their loved ones."

RIP to the victims.

I think the worst part of all this is the guy was muslim. The media in the US will put some sort of spin concerning his faith even though it had nothing to do with the shooting.

Its been a bad year for the image of Muslims in North America. The guy who tried to run over his daughter in Arizona. That guy who beheaded his wife in upstate New York.

And the army...

First Fort Dix, and now Fort Hood. Whats next?

Hasan was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being sent to Texas in July. He was apparently upset about being scheduled to deploy overseas, according to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas, who told Fox News that she was told he may have been targeting specific individuals.

A source tells NPR's Joseph Shapiro that Hasan was put on probation early in his postgraduate work at the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He was disciplined for proselytizing about his Muslim faith with patients and colleagues, according to the source, who worked with him at the time.

i wonder if it could be this huge conspiracy by the US gov
have all these fake incidents and name the suspects with middle east names

get the public to have a bad subconscious image of muslims so that less people will be so against their wars in muslim states?

i dunno just throwing it out there

^^^ well we wont know for sure but similar things have been done in the past and by other countries along those lines

hell Israeli Mossad troops were caught impersonating arabs attempting to conduct terrorist activities, remember they even had Canadian Passports?
In Iraq where British Soldiers dressed up as sunnis or shias, cant remember which, and went and conducted bombings/shootings in the other sects region)

but i would imagine if they were to use a tactic like that it would have been done years ago not now when the wars are basically in their dying stages

Does anyone think this was planned by the government to extent the war in Iraq?

Get the Americans to build hate on for anything Muslim. Get them scared it can happen on American soil, get them terrified that it happened on a Military base.

First the Highest ranking officer told media that the gun man was dead, but later he told the media that he was alive in hospital.WTF

This guy is the modern day Lee Harvey Oswald. CIA had something to do with this.

i'd imagine it's harder than you'd think to find a someone on your own team thats shooting. If you were a cop saw him shooting and he yelled the "enemy" was beyond that corner shooting at both of you, how do you decide who to believe.

pretty fucking hard if you ask me.

my questions is on a base full of other combat-ready, proficient soldiers. Why no other soldiers able to take him down right away? Shouldn't other soldiers recognize a gun shot right away and be on full alert especially with no weapons policy of some sort.
