wtf...owed income tax k so last time i filed my income tax i could not get a T4 from a former employer, the income earned there was only posted as like 2,200 because all the money was in unclaimed tips so now today i get a letter saying i owe $733 because the club i used to work at filed their taxes and that additional 2,200 of income was added to my total i dont really see in the paper work how that 2200 amouts to that, but w/e anyways is there any point in trying to dispute this or somthing? say i never received a T4, the amount claimed could be wrong etc.? |
did you get a "notice of reassessment as well"? |
yea that is what this is |
You might be able to dispute any interest incurred. |
I can't speak for everyone but I know if I get hit with some kind of bill, I just pay it unless it is something that is very expensive. CRA is such a pain in the ass to deal with I just pay. Not suggesting you don't fight it, just be prepared for a headache. |

Upsetting the tax man is not a good idea, especially if you have a job with unclaimed income like tips. |

Practically speaking, they're likely not going to send the OP to jail for not claiming his tip income but they will fine him several hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for intentionally hiding it. In any event, the amount he'll get fined will be significantly more than what he would have paid for just the $733 that he currently owes resulting from the recently discovered T4 for $2,200. Hope that helps. Jimmy |
