*facepalm* | Well if you got 18" wheels for the GTi those tires should work fine with a very minor size difference.

Ya there's a cold front following the area of high pression (nice weather for today and tomorrow). I don't there will be any snow on the ground for a atleast a couple more weeks, regardless I'm probably putting my snows on this weekend or next. We shall see how cold it is and how motivated I am

You don't need snow on the ground to take advantage of winter tires though. It is cold enough for the winter tire compound to outperform the all season / summer equivalent. Quote:

but if there is no snow the snow tires will still wear out like a mofo due to direct compact with the ground

Err no it won't, the tire temp won't get that high considering ambient temperature is hovering C. Winter tires wear will be the same as normal tire where when the normal tire is at say 20C. It is only stupid when you drive you winter tire when air temp is more than 10C.. last I check, we haven't been like that ever since the weather cleared. Quote:

so whats killing the snow tires?
high temperature or rough surface? since snow tires are extremely soft compare to summer/all season compounds
thought if we were in Ontario or sth where there is constantly snow patch on the ground the snow tires will last like forever (exagerate of course)

You are over simplistic with most of your asinine comments.
Tire adhesion is affected by a multitude of factors, but most importantly it is the tire compound. The tire compound's properties like wear property and hysteresis changes over the temperature range.
Heat from tire depends on the hysteresis of the tire compound.
Snow tires are only mildly softer when it is at non winter temperature, when temperature drops it is as hard as any all season tire during non winter months. Quote:

If you do quick corners/turns. Drive too fast on the highway/street. Drive on roads that have a consistent amount of potholes bumps etc etc. All these factors will make your tires wear out faster. Drive normally, no sudden stops/braking will help in reducing tire wear.

^ That's what I thought I should have done, but then they grip so well in cold I just forget about that fact and keep driving on them as though they are summer tires on a summer day.
