I would personally go about it, if you like them, why not, if you really are curious, try digging into their family background. You never know, it is common for people to have the same last name, there is only few that are unique and a few families have them. I once dated a girl with the same last name and didn't really think too much about it because if you were related eventually someone from the family would find out, ie. they see you or their family recognizes her

Assuming s/he's not a family member, of course. (you didn't explicitly point this out!)

not an issue for me, just a coincidence to like someone that has the same last name as you.

If you're worried, do some digging into the family background like canadianaboy suggested... see if your families are from the same village.

No biggie, if you're chinese and expected to date someone who's chinese it's not unlikely to hit someone with the same last name. Don't worry about it, no one will think you're bro/sis/cousin/etc. if you have the same last name... unless you're one of those creepy couples that look identical...

Who cares really? Especially for Chinese people.. There are only a few hundred Chinese surnames, for a billion people. There is going to be some overlap
My wife's sister had the same FIRST name as her BF, in Chinese. That's kind of funny, but not a big deal (since they rarely go by their Chinese names)

As long as you are ok that 5,000 years ago, your grand(to n power)-parents used to be siblings
In the end we're all distantly related. Don't think of it as incest.
