Officers 2nd DUI charge in 2 months (while under 90day suspension)

Quote:
RCMP officer faces second drunk driving charge
Off-duty officer was prohibited from driving for 90 days
Connie Thiessen / Jim Goddard VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) | Monday, November 9th, 2009 1:52 pm VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A Vancouver-based RCMP officer is facing his second drunk driving charge in two months. RCMP say the 55-year-old off-duty constable was pulled over Saturday morning by Vancouver Police near UBC. The officer already had a court date for a previous impaired driving charge and was prohibited from driving for 90 days.

RCMP say the VPD officer on routine patrol Saturday morning spotted a man urinating in a parking lot on Northwest Marine Drive near UBC. Police say the man drove off in his car, and after the VPD stopped him, they discovered the driver was an off-duty RCMP officer driving his own vehicle. The RCMP member was previously arrested on October 3rd after a collision on the Second Narrows Bridge.

RCMP say the officer has been in the force for approximately 16 years, and is currently posted to the General Duty Protective Policing Section based at RCMP headquarters in Vancouver. He has been on medical leave since the first incident and his duty status is being reviewed. The officer faces two formal internal Code of Conduct disciplinary hearings where possible sanctions include loss of pay and dismissal.

RCMP Sergeant Tim Shields says two impaired charges against an officer in just over a month is unheard of. "I have never heard of a case such as this within in the RCMP. It is extremely disappointing. It's very disheartening. We dedicate our lives to upholding the law and serving the community." The unnamed officer now has impaired driving court dates set for later this month and in January.

you know there has to be a background story behind this. 16 years being on the force, he would with experience have way better judgement, seeing countless drunk driving deaths, accidents.

I'm giving him a open door and see what the real reason is. Divorce, lost of a love one, things like that. He better be pushing papers the rest of his life, if thats the case

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often, or we just don't hear about it. Policing is a stressful and frustrating job combined with long hours, it's bound to push some people over the edge.

Why would you?

If it were you or me, do you think the cop who busts you, the judge or the general public would care?

Lots of people are under a lot of stress with work, family, money, etc. That's no excuse.

On the news, they said he already was since his last incident = more time to spend at the bar while getting paid on our dime. They said they would review the current situation and he might be dismissed.

no but my job doesn't have to look at dead bodies, mangled up bodies in car crashed, investigate crime scenes. Things like Robert Pickton.

yes he's trained for this type of work, but given 16 years on the force, nothing prior(that we know of.) I just would give the benefit of the doubt to a police officer. They are the first to put their necks out in a bad situation.

All that being said, i never said he doesn't deserve punishment, he should be pushing papers for the rest of his life.

How does that fix anything? It's not like he was out on-duty and patrolling when he got picked up for DUI.

Sorry, I don't buy it. How many times do you see firemen in the news doing dumb stuff like this? They see waaaay more disgusting medical emergencies, crackheads ODing, and a ton of the same car crashes as cops.

I guess he means the job fucked him up over the years and that may have contributed to his drinking problem. Still doesn't excuse his actions though.

This guy is damaged goods, time to let him go or reinstate him to desk duty after rehab and a psych evaluation.

I should apply for the RCMP.

Interviewer: Why do you want to be a RCMP officer ?

Me: I get to taser and kill someone with no consequences. I get to look at kiddie porn with no consequences. I get to drink and drive with no consequences. I get paid to sit on my ass when I get in shit, and at the end of it all, I get a pension from the Federal government. WHO WOULDN'T WANT THIS JOB?!

Its called addiction. Its a disease. It makes people think what wrong is right. There is no judgement when you are addicted to drugs and alcohol.

He needs to go to rehab.

Screw that.

Termination and a permanent record on his federal records is what is required.

The only job he should have is $11 an hour working security at the PNE.

oh look, another cop gets to keep his job. what a fucking joke.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A constable is still employed by Vancouver Police even though he's pleaded guilty to impaired driving. The VPD will only say that Constable James English is still on desk duty.

Last week, English pleaded guilty to a single count of impaired driving and was given a one year driving ban and fined over $1,100. English was arrested in a Highway One RCMP roadblock at the end of August.
