@ dton13 so whats it like on rogers are you using data? im thinking of buying one from cellworldco. would i have to switch from my iphone plan? or could i use the same plan with the milestone?

dton13 02-22-2010 08:19 PM

its fine with rogers on data. how much is cellworldco selling it for? why not just get the telus one and unlock it? If you're a student i believe you can get a discount from their webstore or something, should be around $500.

No i'm still using a 500mb data plan, but I do tend to notice android phones using more data than my iPhone. I chalk it up to all the background services always accessing data.

cctw 02-22-2010 08:49 PM

^you mean $500 no contract???...from telus?
show me link pls haha

tia

Teh Doucher 02-22-2010 10:15 PM

^its $600 with no contract

JKam 02-22-2010 11:40 PM

damn.. $500... this better live up to the hype if I'm going to get it...

dton13 02-23-2010 12:36 PM

Google Telus Team Webstore

there's a $90 discount if I remember correctly. I know a couple buddies who've done it as well as a bunch of people on hofo and rfd. If you guys can't figure it out i'll ask and see what they did

deuel_1 02-23-2010 12:44 PM

Cellworldco is 599 I think that's waht telus has it for and you have to unlock it. With cellworldco I just buy it put in the sim and set up a new apn and I'm good to go.

dton13 02-23-2010 12:45 PM

that's true. however the unlock shouldn't cost much and what kind of warranty does cellworldco offer?

u forgot that cellworldco probably sells the overseas version that doesnt have NAM 3G..which is the most important factor why we are buying the telus version instead

JKam 02-23-2010 02:25 PM

does it have multitouch support and flash support..?

dton13 02-23-2010 02:46 PM

yes to multitouch right now, but flash comes later i believe.

can't wait for 2.1!!

JKam 02-23-2010 02:58 PM

how is the tactile feedback on the qwerty? does it feel stiff or awkward? what about the build quality (is it comparable to another phone)?

dton13 02-23-2010 03:07 PM

Well as most reviews have also said. The keys are a bit too shallow. As well, the keyboard is a bit too wide (for me anyways) and the offsetting by the dpad doesn't help. I have to constantly keep my right hand halfway across the keyboard. But after a while I got used to it and could type reasonably fast. Not blackberry fast but it was reasonable. The build quality is awesome. When you hold it you know you're holding a solid phone. It is weighty! Even the battery door is metal.

One stupid design I hate is the microsd can't be removed without first taking out the battery and the sim slot is kinda annoying because its hard to remove.

I had the milestone for 8 hours and sold it for a HTC Hero.. similar specs and it's about 2/3 the price of the Milestone.

I was excited to get the milestone too but Motorola put security blocks on the phone so you can't root it and therefore can't fully customize the OS to your liking. Also I found the phone a little bit laggy in some areas, if we could root then we could over clock it like people with the Droid did. The keypad was fine imo, the ledge + d pad off set did make for awkward typing with the right hand, so I just used the digital keypad instead. Phone was built like a rock!

Although the Hero is a good 6 months older, the specs are similar and HTC's touch UI makes the phone dead sexy to use. It's also rootable with ppl hacking the 3g to increase speeds and such.

Can't wait to get my hands on a HTC desire.

I agree that as of now, most reports point to not being able to flash unsigned firmware which is pretty disappointing after being used to most HTCs. But I'm pretty sure rooting will be available soon since they're also able to root EU/SA Milestones.

However I'm going to strongly disagree with the similar specs comment. The milestone pretty much blows the hero out of the water spec wise just due to the fact is using a next-gen processor and a WVGA screen (not to mention better audio processor and almost HD video recording). I have a feeling its lagging slightly now because of some unoptimizations due to it pushing more than double the resolution.

had my milestone for 2 weeks now, after going through the g1 and hero this android phone by far kills it

aside from unable to rooting it (never saw the point unlike the iphone jailbreaks) and slightly below par keyboard (use to bb bold's keyboard), crazy phone overall

anyone have a recommended free rss reader? been using droidss and it crashes whilst refreshing and i cant add engadget to the reader

Have you ever tried using google reader? I put all my feeds into google reader which syncs read/unread counts. Then either use the mobile site through the browser or NewsRob.
