You can buy + activate SIM cards from Bell for the nice low price of $5 (another reason to hate Rogers). As long as the phone is 3G UMTS on the correct frequencies (ie check before you buy an unlocked phone from Asia), it'll work. It should be 850/1900/2100 for Bell if I remember correctly. That's what Technical Support told me. HSPA is a subset of UMTS so either will do.
The Xenon is no iPhone for sure, but $80 (what I paid, taxes in) with 3 years sure beats $500 + data or something stupid for an iPhone (I don't have data). The interface can be a bit annoying/quirky but you *should* be able to flip it after unlocking. Personally I'd never pay $280 (Bell's MSRP) for this phone though. I specifically got this phone because of the QWERTY keyboard (ie easy texting), and IMO that's the best part of the Xenon.
