Windows Mobile Apps I recently got the Samsung Omnia II. Anyone know any good websites I can find applications for windows mobile. There doesn't seem to be much out there, I can find. |
There's tons of apps out there, it's just not as easy to find them (yet) because they aren't in one location like they are for iPhone and Android. I was planning on making a Windows Mobile thread, with a ton of recommended apps. I'll get around to it soon - it's going to be a lot of work ;) For now, if you tell me what kind of apps you might be interested in, I can post a few here. If you are looking for a lot of games or farting apps, you may have bought the wrong phone. |
Any apps for now would be good. Since, I don't have anything specific in mind I am looking for right now. I tried not to get the Iphone since every other person you see carries one, haha. |
The first thing I would do with the Omnia II is disable the crappy Samsung interface and use SPB Mobile Shell. Or even default Windows Mobile, if it has 6.5 installed. |
The SPB Mobile app is like $30buxs haha. Know anywhere I can get it for free that's working? |
Check out: http://www.ppcgeeks.com http://www.samsung-omnia.org http://www.xda-developers.com (HTC-specific, but most general WinMo stuff applies to the Omnia too) |

Also check out SPB GPRS Monitor - monitors your data usage Memmaid - cleans up your memory, you can set it to run every day at a specified time. |

Samsung makes brilliant hardware, but their software is severely lacking. |
It's not Samsung so much as just the bare-bones of Windows Mobile. HTC has a "decent" default interface on SOME of its phones, but not all of them. I found with Telus's Omnia, the Telus-spec'd "launchpad" with "widgets" is a PITA, but from what I've been able to find, some Omnias do ship with a MUCH better default Today screen (the primary interface)... looks like Telus had it stripped from their models. Dunno about the Omnia II tho. Actually, one freeware goodie I recommend is QuickMenu (google it) - replaces the Start menu with a more Windows-desktop-like one that I quite prefer (alas, it doesn't get along with SPB Shell, which is what I'm using on my Omnia now). Saw an article recently somewhere, too, about freeware/opensource apps to make your WinMo phone interface VERY similar to the iPhone's... |
Anyone know if there is a MSN messenger app available for windows mobile phones? I'm looking for something similar to what the HTC touch has built in. There is a program that allows MSN messenger to be on-line pretty much all day, not like a web-based program where you can't have it online and multi-task on another program. Thanks |
Just get Windows Live for Mobile - Messenger, Hotmail, search, etc. http://www.windowsliveformobile.com |
just got my winmo 6.5 phone up and running anyone have: garmin/tom tom with NA maps? |
I recommend MemMaid. It's like CCleaner. |
Here you go, hope you find it useful :) |
