Renewing with Rogers and wanting the bold.. Am i able to renew with rogers for the bold for $99.99 and avoid paying the monthly data plan? My friend told me I can get the phone and then call in to the retention center (611) and explain to them that I lost the phone. Is that possible? Are there any penalty fees that will be incurred with this process? anyone who has worked at rogers or something, let me know. thanks |
first off.. why would you want a blackberry as a phone if you ain't gonna use any of the function.. second.. you signed a contract.. you losing your phone has nothing to do rogers so why would they let you cancel your data plan without penalty, coz they subsidized you for the phone... i dunno whether or not rogers ever implemented IMEI blocking.. but if they did.. then you'll be walking around with a dead paperweight.. so if you report it stolen.. it might get blocked.. and if you reported you found it.. you pay ur monthly data.. "According to Rogers, there have been a lot of recent thefts from their corporate stores, 3rd party stores as well as various shipping and logistics points. To prevent future thefts, Rogers is implementing an international equipment registry to block the usage of stolen handset inventory. The system uses your device’s unique IMEI to block the phone and disable it over 40 GSM networks worldwide." |
Ok..seriously...if you're not getting a data plan, don't get a smart phone. Its like buying an exotic car and not putting any gas in it. Posted via RS Mobile |
uh.. long story short i currently have the iphone with fido but i want the blackberry someone i know is about to renew with rogers and they can get the bold for 99.99 as mentioned. Catch is, they have to also get the data plan if they wish to get the bold for me. thats the thing, i want to know if they are able to cancel the plan after a few days by saying they lost the phone. of course after i get the bold, ill be having a data plan.. just with fido that is and not rogers i appreciate the fast replies |
you can cancel your plan, but your going to have to payout what ever the fee for canceling your contract is (theres the rogers contract cancel fee and theres a blackberry data cancle fee) |

2. get it unlocked 2. u then change ur dsp to a bb dsp @ fido |
data plan cancellation is 10/month maxing out @ $200 not 5/month maxing @ $100.. that's only for the old data plans.. all new renewals falls in the 10/month maxing out @ $200 now |

Note you need a Blackberry data plan to get all the BB features such as push email/ blackberry messenger. Regular data plan such as the data plan for your iphone will only allow you to surf the web on the BB. |

and good luck asking rogers to release the PIN from the bb on their server coz you are gonna report that phone as **lost** without the pin you can't do anything with fido.. like you can still get the bb data plan.. but all the bb features wouldn't work without the PIN being released from rogers coz you won't be able to register it with fido |

Rogers offers a program where they sell refurb or a new phone if you tell them your phone was lost or stolen. They charge a buy out price. |
