^from my experience, ask for a mcdouble like a mac. If you get it at the mcdouble price, it's likely a corporate store. If they give you some BS about having to charge you extra blah blah blah- you're likely looking at a franchise.

still creek, grandview, king&vic, metro, terminal, highgate, guildford walmart, guilford, kerrisdale,
rule of thumb: all the bigger $$$ making stores = company
formerly company: davie, granville, tv towers/library square, via rail (closed down),
might be missing a few but you get the idea, not gonna bother mentioning far far surrey ones as im not familiar

Correct me if I've mistaken, but I believe the location at the corner of Knight & E. 57th? is franchised?

They've answered this question from the McDonald's Canada website. | Doesn't 7-11 have pizza ready in something like 60 seconds? Sure, it's shit only-if-you're-drunk crap, but it's definitely possible to have pizza's ready in under 10 minutes.

Worst McD's by far is the one at Richmond Center. Have refused to go there for a while so not sure if they changed.
Horrible customer service, rude workers, dont accept coupons, no free coffee or dollar drink promos. They even go to the extent of drawing a pen mark on your cup to mark that you have had one refill and are not allowed any more than that.

MFers will not charge me my mcdouble like a mac properly. Quietly asked for the manager. She said that they need to charge a double cheeseburger first.
Not that the 60 cents is a deal-breaker. But it's the principle that they are selling and charging me something that I never wanted in the first place.

I haven't been there in forever.
When I worked at McDonald's (and we're talking 15+ years ago) it was the norm for us to mark customer cups. Mind you, I worked at a smaller location (Thurlow & Alberni - no longer exists) so it was a small location and we had to ensure a high level of customer turnover. That and the homeless would stick around all day. We had to kick them out and/or call the police at least three to four times a day.
I can't say the same for the larger, newly renovated locations however. Perhaps Not Really Racist can chime in.

LOL, you worked up the street from mine. I worked at the Robson/Denman location, when it still had a parking lot.

Wow, small world.
I remember a few of us would get transferred to either the Robson/Denman location or Waterfront and Burrard Station.

Oh man, during fireworks nights, I used to work lobby. It'd get so packed that I would just clean the restaurant, top to bottom and then hang out, outside with my friends. Then when the fireworks started, go in, clean top to bottom again, then disappear when the post fireworks rush came through.
BTW, it was a 2 level store where the 2nd floor was non smoking but was open air, so all the smoke from the main floor would rise anyways...

lolwut Robson/Denman has a second floor? the one diagonal from the Santouka ramen place?
I never go to Richmond Centre much but from the times I've walked by and stared coming down the escalator it looked like a huge shithole. First thing that came to mind was that place needs a huge lobby overhaul reno and they actually need to spend $$ and buy some proper uniforms for their employees that aren't from the 1990s.
They might have gotten new ones since... as I've seen some franchises catching up in the last year or so. Since their lobby is old they probably don't have a external drink station (correct me if I'm wrong) so I can understand why they mark cups because (a) its busy as fuck (b) its annoying (c) the avg person should be good after 1 refill (d) food cost. Every single store loses money on pop - this should be obvious, like A LOT especially during the 1$ drinks. IIRC the service area is pretty cramped too
Before my old store got reno'd, we always honored as many refills as people wanted (drink station w/i the counter) but obviously you got a weird look if you kept coming back multiple times One thing actually is that company stores have been starting to mark for coffee refills as well. One refill and that's all you get, though tea is still unlimited as its just hot water. Probably because of all the cheap Asians that buy their senior coffee and sit there for couple hours and bicker and read newspaper.
Just an interesting fact, all external drink stations can be controlled by a remote control. I remember drunks coming in for free drinks so I just turned it off and they were all like wtf
But YMMV depending on where the store is and the demographic and store policy
One last thing, stores are upholding a new policy nowadays about how when you walk out the doors of the store you can't come back in for a refill. It's strictly enforced and in the past I had to be a dick and refuse. People who would get pop refills using a apple juice cup or asking for a glass of water and getting pop is really annoying I might add. We would walk out there and tell them to pour it out in front of us

Yeah, the whole remote drinks station thing is a bit of a questionable decision, from a business point of view anyway.
I've seen people walk up to the machines with their Camelback bottles and whatnot, going at the ice and Coke like no tomorrow. If McDonald's was to lose a sizeable profit on any item on their menu, I would say that it's the pop syrup and that stuff isn't cheap!

Gotta keep with the times....to make even more money......
Remote station means more room for McCafe and Smoothie machines.
The simple solution to losing money on pop? Filter the oil as much as possible and extend its life for a couple more days. All stores make $$$ on oil they don't use, you'd be shocked how much
McDonalds loses a lot of money on fries, cream, nuggets and reg meat too
