mount it down there, drive ur gf for some shopping & do some burnouts. The tires will look old. Try to go when it rains, it'll be more difficult for border guards to guage ur threads

Honestly just stay over a few nights.. especially in Or.. consider the hotel bill as your tax.

Most border guards don't care if your tires are a few bucks over the limit.

Doing burnouts on your new tires is just stupid.

just pay the taxes, is not worth the hassle of staying over night , or trying to "trick" the customs people by doing agresive driving..

your gonna still save at least 1-2 hundred dollars from tires alone from buying down at the states.

When i bought my rims, I just also purchased a few other things (a camera lens, and a pair of jeans)... went to the boarder, declared i had tires, and customs inspected my car.. I had the seller earlier provide me a invoice stating it was an end of stock sale tire so the price was 50% off..

So I guess at the end its still cheaper for me to order from TR..ship it to mailbox intl or hagens..go pick em up and declare and just get it mounted here right? Cuz that's what I'm thinking of doing cuz shipping there is like 100 compared to 300+ shipping to my house

paid the GST and PST and mounted the wheels myself.

FWIW, I think you have your numbers mixed up. Bikes and bike parts (except for complete wheels) are only ever charged GST even in Canada, they are PST exempt. If you bring a complete bike from US to Canada, and it is not made in North America, then the duty rate is 6.x%, definitely not 30%. You should never be paying PST on bikes or bike parts. The last two times I brought bikes into Canada, I only had to pay the GST even though I knew that I should have had to pay duty also. But many times the duty is skipped/ignored.

If you are crossing 'only' into Pt. Roberts, you HAVE to declare everything, or else there is a very high chance they will find it if you try and sneak anything across. The risk is really not worth it to save a few bucks, even a hundred bucks. The border guards there literally have not much better to do, and they are usually the younger guards there so they tend to not to be as lax as the ones in Blaine.

They charge $2.50 a package and $10 one time registration for general delivery. I also have a mailbox there (about $8/month) so it's $2 a package and anything via USPS is free.

The best thing with having a mailbox is that they offer a "drop box" service where they'll put your stuff in a larger lock box and you can get to it at any time (they have a 24 hour access code for the door so you can get your stuff even if it's closed) They charge an additional $4 for that option but at least you're not stuck with going during opening hours.

Only thing that sucks about Blaine is the border wait. (I would highly recommend Nexus and even then, it's sometimes a good 20-30 min wait)

As for OP's question, like others have said, no brokerage fee and no tire levy to be paid. Duty might need to be paid depending on where your tires are made.

I've had tires (from Tirerack) shipped to the mailbox and they'll just tape the tires in pairs and tape a label onto it.
I'll give a to Security Mail as well... I've been using them for a few years now. Never ever had a problem...

The tires were mounted to the wheels; the wheels were covered by cardboard...then 8 straps held it in place. 4 seperate labels with 4 different tracking numbers; bill of sale emailed to me as well as being taped to one of the wheels. bolts were included...taped to the inside of one of the wheels. tires i can see...wheels were covered and protected...had to take the packaging apart.
threw them in the back of my car and drove to the border.
I did declare it at the border..not gonna mess around with them...

the letter carrier in pt roberts stash all the tires in the parking lot. I don't know if thats good or bad, but anyone can just grab them. and when it rains, its not covered, so your tires will have puddles of water inside them.

Does that happen with all the mailbox services?
