How much do i Save by shipping to Point Roberts?

Do i still have to pay

GST: $56.84
PST: $97.69
Duty: $66.68
Provincial Tire Fee: $20.00
Brokerage Fee: $30.00

If i bring my tires across the border from Point Roberts?

You get charged gst pst, tire levy and duty fee. im presume you went to tirerack, and did the shipping option to Canada. If you ship to point Robert, you will not have to pay the brokerage fee.

Yes, under NAFTA, any goods made in North America should not be charged duty.

ya, but 90% of tires are mad in china/spain or in korea. so for budget tires you probably can't find one that is under NAFTA

No provincal Tire fee whenever I brought tires across the border. Just 5% GST, 7% PST, 6% duty whenever the tires were not make in the USA.
And of course, save on brokerage.

With shipping to Point Roberts, expect to have to pay GST and PST for sure. If you are very lucky, they may forget to charge duty and the tire levy. But the Point Roberts agents are usually quite on top of things, since collecting taxes and stuff is essentially all they do every day. They'll usually pull you in for anything more than $50.

If you ship to Blaine, they may even wave you through without having to pay any taxes. Depends on the border guard you get, but I have brought back $200-300 worth in an afternoon trip and not gotten taxed. But don't expect that to happen all the time. I like Blaine because of this and I can usually boot down to do a quick grocery run in Bellingham, but its further for me than Pt Roberts.

How about this, for anything you bring across boarder, you need to pay GST/PST plus duty if it is not made in the NA. (I was looking to get a mountain bike, $1000 to buy in canada and 700 US to ship to Point robert, but duty on bike are 30% so I pretty much axed the idea) for for the person who didnt get charge duty is just luck, there're no way to guarantee you wont get charge.

Fast and prompt, 30 seconds away from the border.

Don't require registration or anything.

Just put your shipping address to their place.

i used to use Hagen's but they are only open till 5... and I usually go down during the week after work, and cant get there before 5... once the shut the door in my face right at 5pm just as i got there.... so needless to say i dont use them anymore... I now use mailboxes international.. they are open till 6pm everyday, and on wednsdays they are open till 8. It's $2.50/package, but you gotta register the first time, it costs $10. they send you an email when your package arrives. I always go to blaine now simply cause I almost never have to pay duties/taxes, where as in point roberts I was once pulled in when I had I had a $100 item, and didnt have the invoice, and when they pulled the item up on ebay, it showed as sold for $120, so they were going to revoke the item and make me pay a penalty, but then i talked to the supervisor and he just made me pay the taxes... so now i go to blaine and use mailboxes international... their info:

You order the tires from TR and have them shipped to the shipping place you want to pick up from.

Then you just show up at the place to pickup. Pay them and you are on your way.

For 4 tires, they will be packed in pairs.

For 4 rims and tires, not too sure.

They don't pack tires.. they just put shipping stickers and ship them.

Wheels will be in boxes.. they won't be mounted.

If you want you can always get it shipped to a TR installer in Portland.. stay there for 72 hours to mount and test the tires.. since you have $750 tax free.. you don't have to pay anything extra.

unless you were driving with bald tires or willing to leave ur good tires behind, i dont see the point. also customs are pretty keen on this, especially during this season when lots are wanting to save on winter tires.

they will come out, and check for your threads.

i rather pay 40-50 on duty, then be on the blacklist and having to be checked everytime i go to the states.

I use Security Mail Services in Blaine. I like them because they're open on weekends till 2PM. It's the only time I can really go.

They charge $2.50 a package and $10 one time registration for general delivery. I also have a mailbox there (about $8/month) so it's $2 a package and anything via USPS is free.

The best thing with having a mailbox is that they offer a "drop box" service where they'll put your stuff in a larger lock box and you can get to it at any time (they have a 24 hour access code for the door so you can get your stuff even if it's closed) They charge an additional $4 for that option but at least you're not stuck with going during opening hours.

Only thing that sucks about Blaine is the border wait. (I would highly recommend Nexus and even then, it's sometimes a good 20-30 min wait)

As for OP's question, like others have said, no brokerage fee and no tire levy to be paid. Duty might need to be paid depending on where your tires are made.

I've had tires (from Tirerack) shipped to the mailbox and they'll just tape the tires in pairs and tape a label onto it.
