any way to get actvn fee waived for Rogers?

I've been a Rogers customer for years. My current phone is messed and I need a new one. Normally after one year I am able to upgrade my phone and just resign a 3 year contract and I pay to the promotional price on the phone as if it were a new activation.

I called in today and was told Rogers no longer does that, and that I would just be given a 50 dollar discount off the retail price of the phone( for example if i wanted the bold I would pay $299 on a new 3 yr contract) if I wanted to do a hardware upgrade. Just last year I got a bbp for $0 and they waived the activation fee. Now, I want to get a newer blackberry and am willing to pay up to $200 for the phone plus resign a new contract but they say they no longer waive the fee. I just wanted to see if anyone who works for Rogers would know whether this is true or not or if there is any way around the activation fee.

Im not too sure about Rogers anymore and am thinking about changing carriers to one that offers better offers for existing customers

go on the last day of the month and look for a rep who's sweating bullets because he's short on his quota. ask for $50 off the phone before you talk about anything else. if he says no, go to the next store.

i'll give that a try this weekend

should work, just know that not all stores are able to adjust phone pricing. some can only adjust accessory pricing.

I used to be that guy sweating bullets, you do ANYTHING to make those last 2 activations for your $1000 monthly bonus.

call in now, they are waiving the fee for customers that sign up
so good luck

didnt work. All reps at the stores such as wireless wave and rogers have told me as far as the activation fee goes, the only people who were able to waive it were reps at the call centre. And they said the only way it might be wiaved was if i were a new customer on a new 3 year term who bought a phone through the call centre sales dept. At wirelesswave they told me If i were a new customer on a new 3 year term I could get the promotional price, for Example: $99.99 for a bold on a new 3 year term, and they would throw in accessories like a car charger and some of those skins for the phone IF i purchased the extended warranty which is only like $80, but that they wouldnt be able to waive the actvn fee.

As a current customer, I was not eligible to just resign a 3 year to get a new phone at whatever the promotional price is, like I used to be able to do before. I was told I have to wait until my contract(1 more year) is up before I can renew a contract and get a new phone, otherwise the most they can do is knock about $50 off the retail price of the phone but I would need to resign a 3 year term and pay the activation fee again although I would want to keep my number.
So I guess im SOL.

They only waive activation fee on new activations, often tracked on a sheet and submitted by a rep, so some reps are retarded and don't know. but it is usually done as a $35 credit on the first bill. under any other condition a rep CANNOT discount anything beyond the price of hardware.

Wireless wave can only discount accessories, not hardware.
There are 2 franchises I know can discount, you just have to find a rep who's willing.

hardware upgrades (renewal) are eligible on rogers after 12 months for regular phones, 24 months for smartphones, and the $35 you encounter here is an admin fee, not activation fee, so you have to haggle to get rid of this.

yes you can. Wait 2 weeks and sign up with wind. fuk rogers.

^^ beat me to it. and to elaborate on the renewal price of the phones. its all based on revenue aka tiers. esentially the longer you wait/ more you pay to rogers you'll get the prices you see out there.

wind is not launching in Vancouver till at least march 2010
and CSRs can waive ur 35bux, depends on how paitient you are with people and calling
