Scirocco available in Canada ?
 

Anyone here close with HPA motorsports ? I heard through the vine that HPA is importing and customizing the Scirocco so that it can be registered here in Canada as a kit car. I sent an e-mail out just now but was curious to see if anyone can confirm if the rumors are true ?

they have to diss-asemble the whole car and put it all back together... that will cost A LOT

unless you want to pay close to 100 grand for a scirocco... i don't see many people doing it...

My guess is they would take the Scirocco and put a TT 24v VR6 with an AWD system... you are looking at well over 100k for that setup... and then it would be vin'd as a HPA Scirocco... like they did with the R32's they did up before they admissible...

You can't import the car straight out and try registering it legally, they have to take it apart and then literally make a kit car. I'm just curious to see if they are going to doing it for the Scirocco and how much it's going to cost. How much were their other kit cars ?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a TT-S?

can they call them GTi Kit cars? they ride on the same platform neways so sorta like those kit cars insured as the car they are based off of

i can't see this happening... RIV lets you only import cars from the US or something that is over 15 years old...

There are rumors flying around that the Scirocco will come to north america... but when and how many is not an answer anyone will know... :mad:

yea i was wondering why they dont just bring in the body work and frame and reassemble it on the platform of a GTI lol...the two are basically the same car based on platform tranny and engine...if they need more power just drop the TT-S 3.2 in there :P

nowaday people can't buy a brand new car from the states?

not sure if the law has changed or not. A friend of mine had imported a LHD 90 VW Rallye edition back in 2001 from Europe, he paid $5000 to register. I thought that was legal as long as it's LHD.

i highly doubt VW is gonna threaten Golf + GTI sales by bringing over essentially the same thing to their lineup :P hehe just me though
and i think its legal to import cars from outside the country as long as they comply with rules and are LHD...would surely explain EVO8s and 9s roaming around...maybe thats just states :/

kit cars are not worth it unless you are mechanically inclined to do it in your garage.

Except the States isn't getting a Scirocco either. :mad:

As far as I can remember when I talked to one of the guys at HPA a few years back, that GTI R32 was simply brought over and insured as a show/track car (or something like that). It was only legally allowed to be in Canada for a couple years as part of the restrictions. I've a feeling that this Scirocco -- if they do bring one over -- will be insured much the same way.

HPA is importing the rolling Scirocco chassis from Germany and once these parts land, we are integrating North American powertains. The V6 motor, DSG gearbox and 4-Motion underpinnings are installed together with our FT565 twin turbo system. Once this assembly is together, a “Ubuilt” vin is applied for and installed. We retain all smog and OEM VW/Audi communications and hardware allowing us to meet most every States emissions test requirements associated with our engine vin code.

2) Price Options : Stage 1 FT495 with a single turbo is between $90-95,000, FT565 twin turbo is between $125-135,000 and FT640 features a 3.6liter twin turbo $155-165,000

Wrong.. The GTI is on the MK6 platform (strengthened MK5 with tons of new laser weldings)

The Scirocco is based on the EOS/Passat platform.. Platform wise, there's nothing in common between the Scirocco and the Mk6 GTI

The TT-S uses a EA113 2.0T FSI engine, and not a 3.2. The 2.0T engine is found on the MK6 Golf R, and the Audi S3.

i'm still wondering about this... the only people i know that have managed to do this was draken, who imported a bunch of leftover escort cosworth unibodies from ford motorsports germany (they were leftovers from the WRC program when they were replaced by the focus), and those were untitled bodies that were never issued chassis numbers... they built those up with used parts and drivetrains from merkur xr4ti's and they were then titled as u-builds.

my bad with the engine....but im almost positive that the mkv,mkvi,scirocco,eos all run on the *googles* PQ35 platform...i read up on the mkvi when it was first introduced that it runs on the same engine (a little more power) transmission and platform as the existing mkv and was meant to be really just a facelift with a little tweaking. however, regarding the laser welding, structural integrity yadayada i have no idea...but i am 100% sure that under the body work and power...eos, mkvi, mkv, scirocco as well as other VAG cars such as seat leon...that skoda something and the audi A3 all run on the platform originally designed for the golf
mkv...sorry if you think im wrong but just me talking lol :P

Its true... you can swap the Scirocco front end on to an Eos...

And the TT-S engine (same in golf-R) I find it funny that they badged it as a TSI even though it is clearly an FSI with a K04...

Good laugh to start off a week. $165,000 for a Scirocco built by an ESL dropout.

there are a few done up eos' floating around...

One called Sunshine from germany that actually is a TDI eos and then there is the famed one form the EOS that is on air and is owned by some kid's mom (he rocks a bagged A6)...

Have seen a few others floating around... but would love to see one with a scirocco front end on it! Think it would look pretty mean... but in most cases those front end swaps will set you back a good 6-8 grand (mk6 gti front end swaps are selling for 8 grand on OEMPL.us) headlights alone are about 3 g's...

^ OEMPLUS prices are overpriced, even for OEM parts. :lol
