Stay safe this holiday season...

Here we go... a month til Christmas... so I just wanted to remind everyone...

No drinking and driving, ok?

Especially those of you N drivers... aka Class 7's... any alcohol and you lose your licence. And then we'll all laugh at you. You don't want that, trust me. Even worse if you kill someone.

Seriously... make yourself a promise you won't drink and drive. Or be a passenger in someone else's car after they've been drinking.

If you're going to drink... plan ahead... leave the car at home... or if you get stuck, do the Operation Red Nose thing instead... or another service. The donations go towards good community programs... better than you having to $$$ to lawyer up to get your old lifestyle back after you maim someone..

Alright kids?

Stay safe this holiday season...

You might.. but many people seem to forget. Just a friendly reminder, that there ARE safe alternatives to leaving your car where you parked it..

Plus there are TONS of drinking & driving threads in the Police forum, by N drivers who got caught. And the fact is... it's never the first time they've done it, when they get caught... it's an on-going thing... so obviously some people don't realize what a bad idea it is.

Check out the Operation Red Nose thread... but in a nutshell, volunteer teams of three come and pick you up and drive you home, in your own car. One drives your car for you, another accompanies for safety, and you get to play drunk passenger. A third volunteer drives their car (some are on loan from dealerships or ICBC...) and follows to take the crew to the next person.

It's a free service... run by volunteers. Though we appreciate donations, which go to the Rotary Club to help support youth programs around Metro Vancouver. Most people donate $20 on average... though we'd never turn someone down who is broke and unable to donate...

And since you asked... volunteers can nominate a charity for their donations to go towards. My friends and I help to support the North Vancouver Outdoor School Alumni Society, which funds the Outdoor School for Kids bursary fund... which in turn, allows kids who cannot afford to pay to attend the North Vancouver Outdoor School (in Brackendale), still attend the school with their classmates. The NVOSAS also awards 10 $500 scholarships to high school counsellors from the school. Kinda giving my own back... since I met my wife up at the NVOS after all...
