they had to have me drive the car I "might be considering to trade in" there just to let me test drive the GTS

that is a horrid car to drive anyway. Before it got the pushy sales or what not I just walked out.

mitsu only came to canada at 2001, therefore it hasnt been in canada for very long.

Look at subaru, they aint selling that many either.

Subies and mitsu in jap isnt as big as nissan/honda/toyota

i'm just speculating, but my guess is that the aftermarket industry looks at the brand as a whole rather than just a single model? if the brand in general is not selling, why invest funds and development time into parts that may not sell because of low demand?

like others who have already commented above, mitsubishi just does not have enough models in their automotive product lines. the galant is not competitive in it's niche, the endeavor is old, the eclipse failed in translation from concept to production... you get the idea. the outlander seems to be doing okay, but it cannot support the entire brand on it's own, and even though the evolution is popular among us gearheads, how many of us can actually afford to own one? they have a small pickup (raider) that they sell in the US that they didnt even bother bringing here, and why won't they give us the colt?

hopefully there will be change, especially with so many dealerships closing, such as saturn and chrysler. hasn't deer lake chrysler in burnaby just change over to mitsubishi? maybe this upcoming new MIEV electric car might change things up...

subaru seems to be doing fine, because they have cornered the niche market for affordable awd transportation:

http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/a.../02/c2186.html

but then they have a much smaller range of models than most, but all their models are popular (well, maybe with the execption of the tribeca, and that now-dead baja)... and now that toyota has bought a big chunk of fuji heavy industries shares, and all the buzz being generated over this new FT-86 coupe which needs another year before release, subaru may be poised for something big?

new type ignored my buddy who was ready to buy an evo, he stood their for 20 mins and did not get greeted. the only time someone said anything was when he tried to go up stairs to look at the wheels and was told the area was "not public" so we when to north vancouver instead

newtype treats customers like shit. heck, i test drove the ralliart and i was back at the dealership in 3 right turns.

my friend had a horrible experience purchasing a hatchback gts lancer too. apparently he was charged for paper work fees, and taxes were not included in the final pricing of the car. i remember he said the salesman was that lady (younger one)

i enjoyed Vancouver Mitsubishi as well

The reason i didn't like New Type was because we came on sunday at around noon, and they wouldn't let us test drive any cars, but expected us to buy one.

so we went over to Vancouver Mitsubishi and they let us take two cars to test drive, didn't sit in the car, and basically gave me a green card to fuck off for a few minutes, i really liked that

and in the end my sister got the exact options she wanted albeit she wanted an EVO X, and we got 2k off the price. with 0% financing.

You guys say Newtype is the worst but I think Pacific Mitsu in Maple Ridge was the worst (before they got shut down) Anytime I wanted to get parts from them they always asked for a VIN number.... Me: "I just want a bolt" Them: "what's the Vin number"... like wtf?

Mitsubishi is not that popular because it is a young brand in Canada. Traditionally it had been sold as rebadged Dodge. Stand alone Mitsubishi has only been here since the 00+. Not to mention Mitsubishi's heavy duty truck business is not here too.

Honestly Mitsubishi due to its financial disaster / fraud in Japan, its portfolio has stagnated and is more or less a one trick pony ala Lancer. Have you look at the Galant? what a overpriced POS! In all honesty, North American taste until recently has been in bigger/ quieter cars.. WRC road cars are not for everyone.

Oh yeah.. don't forget Jackie Chan.

I think for more or less 1 model (well Outlander too).. it is doing decently well.

It is actually a one trick brand because Outlander and Lancer and EVO...

When are we going to get some Colt love?

We'll never get the Colt, we'll be getting the Miev before the Colt if anything.

All 3 models are based off the same platform... and not to mention their powertrain sharing with Hyundai.. I think among all the Japanese makes, they are probably the bottom of the barrel currently (yes the mighty has fallen) in terms R&D and uniqueness.

I don't think they imagined themselves having to collaborate with Hyundai to survive 15 years ago.

no, they wouldn't even try to do a part search without a VIN, no matter what car or how common the part is you must have a VIN. I was also talking to the owner of Evolution Auto in MR (Mitsu tuning specialists) and even he says that the service at Pacific Mitsubishi was the worst he's ever seen at any dealership

LOL that's why I download my own Mitsubishi ASA and throw them with part numbers instead.

Too bad the downloaded ASA doesn't cover new new new cars like 2010 models. Only up to 2008.

What so "industry leading" about them?

AFAIK most places offer 5years 100k km powertrain and a minimum of 4 years warranty vs Mitsu's 3 years...

Again boy racers market share is very small. Even if you have factory par warranty, you still can't see cars people don't want.

ya i agree with you guys on the shitty service part, when i was buying my lancer two sales guy were involved, steven and richard, richard was cool, explained about the car and the financing in details, and the steven guy just kept on saying how low they are on stock, and kept on telling me to pay a deposite right away otherwise somebody else will buy it.and i told him to fuckoff and went to talk to richard. But my 08 gts is holding up pretty good, had it for almost 3 years now never had a problem.
