One of the better trucks we won't be getting

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/12...-revealed.html

-Body on frame
-6 speed
-4 door
-CRD

I'd say it's suitable for about 90% of truck owners out there. As long as you don't need a huge payload or are towing a really heavy trailer, it's pretty much got everything covered.

Aside from the 80's lightbar (not my taste) it's got everything I'd really need to be a great all around vehicle - on paper at least.

Maybe if the Big 3 died or actually stepped it up to handle the competition, we'd get the great Euro and JDM diesels over here.

You sir, are 100000% right. I totally forgot.

Pretty sure anyone who wheels would be more than happy to sacrifice a little comfort for an SFA.

I mean it's a truck not a Caddy or Porsche!!!

Have mixed feelings for this truck, on one hand I'd look to see a nicer interior and maybe a smooth V6 if this were to be a daily driven truck. the CRD and 6 speed makes a lot of sense for a basic truck but I would doubt VW's ability to price this thing competitively for a practical, workhorse, utilitarian truck and would guess that it'd still be well over 30k, and for the pricing reason alone I can see why they probably won't be bringing them here

It won't come here because the CRD won't meet US emission without the $3-4k NOx reducing catalytic system.

To keep cost down you either have to do it very low powered like Mahindra is trying to do... which will wreck VW's premium image... or you add the SCR etc.

The reality is truck business especially small trucks are a tough sell.. people seem to either move to bigger ones or just cars... take a look at the age of the vehicles.. like Ranger etc etc.

I'd be more than happy with the CRD that came in the Liberty.

Small trucks have never come to the NA market with GOOD options. If the Toyota Hilux or Nissan diesels were allowed 20 years ago, they would've blown the domestics out of the water. Granted, fullsized trucks have their place but a good majority of people only buy them due to lack of market options.

I don't think many would disagree that Dodge diesel trucks are, and have been the best in the NA market since the 80's but they don't even manufacture anything on the truck that makes it good. Cummins, New Venture, Allison and Dana do.

The VM diesel doesn't pass emissions.. that's one of the reason why DC dropped it... it was about the same time frame, when the low suphur engines / fuel come in place.

As I see it the only diesel + small truck is the Mahindra.. unfortunately no one makes a cost effective diesel that passes emission for the small truck weight class.

http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...ntil-2010.html

From the tech specs I think the Ford Scorpion will take the lead from Dodge, especially in the NVH area... yes Dodge used to be good, but they just don't have the money for R&D.

Where do you get 90% from?

I deal with trucks and truck owners every day. Most truck owners NEED the cab space, the bed space, or the performance that a full size truck offers. There are very few people who buy 1/2 ton or 1 ton trucks that don't need them.

Just because they also use the truck to get the mail or go clubbing, doesn't mean the truck does get used as it was meant to be during the work day.

This VW is about the same size as the SportTrac, with less towing and payload capacity, and guess what, the SportTrac, Ridgeline, and other similar trucks do not sell very well at all; and neither would this VW truck.
