Importing Car Problems

- 2 weeks ago i purchased a 01 red honda s2000 from Seattle WA
- read all the guides on importing, did my best to follow step by step how to import a car from the united states
- got it through boarder, paid for interm insurance, paid for riv
- went to cdn tire to have the vehicle passed inspection

i have all the paperwork done correctly however there is a sticker on my driver side panel missing

its the sticker that states the vehicle passes all safety in the us motor vehicle regulations

what happen was i think the owner, or the owner before him removed the sticker when he had the door jam repainted

i've made two trips to Honda in the USA with no help

i'm not sure where to go from here

i'm looking for some help or a second opinion as to what i could do?
i have phoned riv, without that sticker they won't help me

So you have all the recalls done and a recall letter verifies it?

Did CT passed you? or they didn't? (is there where you are stuck?)

I have all the recalls done and the letter that verifies that the recall is done.

CT didn't pass me because i don't have that sticker on the drivers side door panel that states my vehicle meets all USA motor vehicle regulations

all it is, is a sticker that says that with my VIN on it
if honda is willing to give me a letter that says that i can pass but honda of USA for whatever reason, is not willing to do that
when i went over there, they weren't even willing to talk to anyone in canada to try to help me out

You can try to go to the US dealership and just get the sticker (instead of them to call the Canada)..

Honestly the door jam sticker is important.. I would touch a car with a 10ft pole without it.

You have also made sure the VIN matchs with the rest of the car eg powertrain etc right?

Did the dealer offer any reason? You can also go back to the original shop who painted it, pay them some $$ and get them to order the sticker from Honda USA.

Door jam sticker is one of the key points to identifying the car.

Well a sneaky way is to try to get someone's door jam sticker and just replicate it. Get a good photo, photoshop it and go to a vinyl shop to print a vinyl copy out.

I am afraid if you can't get the sticker, your car might be one of those small percentage that falls through the crack and can't get passed.

that sticker cannot be purchased from just anywhere. Its with the vin on it when they made the car. You are now pretty much stuck with a car that cannot be registered in Canada.

FYI, Even if CT failed to noticed that the sticker is missing (which is highly unlikely) the autoplan agent will also look for that sticker.

The sticker isnt the only way to register a car. You need to get a letter from the manufacturer that clearly references your VIN # and states that the vehicle is manufactured for use in the USA and meets all US safety standards. This isnt an unusual request and Honda USA should be able to accomplish this easily.

Unfortunately Honda of America are assholes. My friend had an issue with importing a Honda Element a few years ago and they would not give him the documentation needed to import unless he was the original owner registered in the states. Best for you just to contact the person whom you bought the car from and ask him to give them a call. Best of luck with your situation though dude !

I had the same situation .

I can possibly help you.

Is your car a salvage?

I was in the same situation where it was missing that sticker. I couldn't even drive it pass the border without it.

Pm me
