boy i must say new red is awesome, cant really comment on sram vs shimano, they both are good in its own way, didnt really have much of misshifts with doubletap, got used to it pretty quickly, but one thing i did notice is damn! the new crank/chainrings, chain and the powerdome cassette is SO smooth and quiet, it honestly feels like a hybrid car, like a prius, its so quiet, only thing i can hear is the wind, the stupid cateye computer rattling, or the wheels, shifting is fast and quiet both front and rear derailleurs, except for the click you get from the shifters which is quite satisfying. other than that, not much else to report for now, after a few more rides perhaps.

what kind of riding are you intending for the wheels? (commuter, weekend warrior, a bit of both?) probably something with a higher spoke count. Mavic is known for its bombproof-ness so that can serve as a starting point of comparison

Definitely a weekend warrior! I have a set of ultegra wh-6700s weighing in at 1670g(?) that I would be using majority of the time but a lighter set to go up north vancouver would be nice.

Key constraint is that it has to be silver with radial front, old school steel doesn't flow too good with modern black rims at least not with my setup.

Oh man, Mark Cavendish of Omega-Pharma Quickstep took the first stage. That team is finishing really strong in a lot of races this year. I think he might even take the Giro this year.

after a long ride, shifting is seamless. shifters click as advertised, FD shifts up really nice as well compared to 105. which is unfair comparing 105 to red. brakes are really powerful compared to my old tektro.

no mishifts, pretty happy with the upgrade. crank is really quiet n stiff. the only downside to my bike and sram red is me lol.

pretty happy with my ride, not the fastest but longest i've done so far. golden ears bridge is PITA. and on parts out to pitt meadows fort langley, smells like cow shit with all the farming lol.

Looking to upgrade to a roadbike. What is everyone's opinion on this ad? Good Deal?

My concern is the bike may be a bit to small for me but will need to test it out. I am 5"10..

Just got in from my ride, got cut off by a car, couldn't un-clip before I had to stop and went down. Slow speed bail but still scratched my lever. FML.

Strava only recorded last 1/2 of my ride.... I guess my phone wasn't locked in my jersey pocket. Double FML.

Might be a tight fit for you at 5'10" and you'd be pretty slammed down since there'd is no hsteerer tube height left. Good deal on the bike though depending on the age and component level

Guys, I found this bike on Backcountry.com. BMC Streetracer SR01 Shimano 105

Any opinions? I'm looking for something similar to a Roubaix in terms of geometry, and this is aluminium vs carbon so it will ride a bit harsher maybe. It is cheaper than the Roubaix that I'm looking at by $400...

My opinion on that BMC, pretty nice! And backcountry.com is good, because of the lifetime return policy! Looks like they only have 48cm and 51cm left, hope one of those sizes are suitable for you.
$400 is a good chunk of change (for me at least, not to these other ballers in here). You can save that and buy some accessories, clothes, tires, etc...
The whole aluminum vs. carbon and harsher ride...you'll just get use to what you're riding. It's not like you're riding cobblestones everyday, are you?!? I have steel, aluminum, scandium, carbon, aluminum/carbon hybrid bikes. Each have their own characteristics, but I do not find any one bike more harsh than the other. Maybe I should get a titanium bike next for comparison sake! JK!

A quality aluminum frame will ride much better than an entry level carbon frame.
