Just finished another build (again & finally!). Think some of you might remember this when I first got it: http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps16515567.jpg Bought as a frame and fork again, and slowly built it up. Actually had this one before my 2 Kona projects, and wasn't really working hard on it, thus it took so long.... Well, definite lack of funds too! http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...psd822bca1.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...psce72785f.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps91c1ec88.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps5591c3bd.jpg The spec list: Frame: 2005 Giant TCR C1 (Carbon frame/fork) Handlebars/Stem: Zeus Zeta Carbon / Ritchey WCS Carbon 100mm Fork/Headset: Stock / FSA Carbon Integrated Front Wheel/Tire: Mavic Aksium Race / Bontrager R1 Plus 700 x23c Rear Wheel/Tire: Mavic Aksium Race / Bontrager R1 Plus 700 x23c Crankset/Bottom Bracket: SRAM Red / SRAM Saddle/Seat Post: Bontrager Affinity RL / Deda BlackStick Carbon Pedals/Chain: Shimano 105 / SRAM PC-1071 Shifters/Derailleurs: SRAM Force / SRAM Rival Cassette: SRAM PG 1070 Brakes: SRAM Rival Misc: Deda bar tape, Jagwire cables/housing Probably make this the (new) race bike, if I ever have time to ride it. Yes, it's a really small frame, but hey, lighter right? Again, haven't had a chance to ride it except around the block. |
^ truth! don't get something that's 'carbon' just for the sake of getting carbon! |

I have never ridden a carbon frame before so I do not know how much better it rides vs. aluminium, but I wanted to find a smooth, relaxed geometry bike more for longer fitness rides than racing so that's why I was looking at carbon frames. Quote:

The Roubaix uses the lowest grade carbon materials (not that it's bad.) Not to mention their groupset is...not the greatest. BMC makes solid framesets although most of their bikes are now carbon, that particular model on backcountry.com was specifically made to BMCs specifications. That and it has a 105 groupset. I would have pulled the trigger on that bike if it weren't for the deal on the Guru Flite. I might just get it for my bike in LA. :D |
Boooom. Team Sky smashed the TT just now. Cavendish lost the maglia rosa to salvatore puccio of sky still, hard to watch this stuff ... lol. if it weren't for the effin' birds chirping outside, i wouldn't have waken up to watch this hahaha |
my buddy has a Bmc aluminum bike and he loves it. I haven't tried so I can't compare to my Supersix which is carbon. Edit: my bad. My buddy has a sl01 so it's carbon as well. Btw westwood cycles in Coquitlam is having a cannondale demo day. If you wanna go ride an evo red ;) Posted via RS Mobile |
Today? I'm working. :-( Posted via RS Mobile |
That BMC looks like a good ride, good price point too. 105 is getting into Shimano's higher end so it will be quite crisp and positive feeling. And I might have to try out a Supersix myself :D |
1 Attachment(s) i've tried my friends sl01 (with ultegra di2 and mavic kysium wheels) the frame is stiff, repsonsive and corners very well. i really like riding it not sure difference between sr01 and sl01, but they look almost the same |
SR01 = BMC Street Racer - aluminum frame SL01 = BMC Road Racer - carbon frame Two different monsters in their own rite. |
so RS peloton. any suggestions for a decent best bang for value wheelset between 5-700? i dont bike to commute, just for the sake of riding my bike on nice days, training i guess, not racing. either local sale or online. here are just a few that i've looked at my price range. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mavic-ksyriu...wheelset-2013/ http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mavic-cosmic...wheelset-2013/ http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-z...cher-wheelset/ http://www.wiggle.co.uk/fulcrum-raci...wheelset-2013/ http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=92176 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=76736 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=76735 |
is that demo day today? |
I do not recommend the Campy/Fulcrum wheelsets. They have a low spoke count and if you want them for just riding and training, these are not good for it. (FYI - Fulcrum Wheels are owned and made by Campy. They simply wanted to diversify their market and product line.) Or pony up for a set of the Reynolds Solitudes. They are 15xx grams and change without tires and fit within your budget. I have a set of them on the Guru Flite right now and was on the CAAD10 before. An alternative is to give these guys a shot - http://www.bicyclewheelwarehouse.com/ |
not familiar with wheels. But higher spokes the better? Btw. I'm about 128 pounds. So not a heavy rider lol. Posted via RS Mobile |
Yup. Got to ride an SuperSix EVO2 with Sram Red :fuckyea: Even scored a free Cannondale water bottle :D https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1...505_132819.jpg Beautiful riding bike. Took it down Pipeline Rd. which is notoriously rough and the bike was surprisingly smooth yet stiff at the same time. At $4000 it should be. Slightly easier to pull hills than my CAADX. Probably due to 5lb difference in weight and 23c tires to my 35c fatties @ 85psi max :okay: Shifting on the otherhand, well let's just say I'll stick with my Shimano Ultegra. :smug: |

For the most part, these will be okay for you but if you have 20 - 24 spokes for a guy your weight, it's good insurance so your wheel doesn't crap out on you if you hit a pot hole etc. There are other things like aero dynamics, ride quality and whatever but I'm not versed enough to really share any objective opinions or experience. Give John @ PMS a call! :D OTG-ZR2 - I hope your went home with that bike! I'll swap out the Red group for my Rival, okay? Thanks! :fullofwin: re: Red vs. Ultegra - of course, both are different in terms of shifting but Red is at a point of diminishing returns. I didn't mind Ultegra shifting smoothness (in fact, I liked it a lot) but as I said before, the hood design didn't work for my hands. |
evo so beautiful :okay::okay::okay::okay::okay: |
I do like the crisp up shifting of Red. It's much more positive than Shimano. The down shifting was the deal breaker for me. The demo bike and my bike were almost exactly the same as they were requiring adjustments, both very minor, like 1/2 to a full turn on a barrel adjuster. I tried for the life of me to get the Sram in by just adding some extra push to the lever as I do with my Shimano when it's stuck between gears. The Sram would jump up to the next gear and then fall back into the original gear. I didn't like that. Maybe I'm just used to how my bike is and don't quite know the tricks of double tap yet. |
Strange. Sounds like the bike needed adjustments. I had to get a quick rear derailleur adjustment as mine jumped in and out of gear and a few touches at PMS, problem was solved in minutes and free! :D The downshifting on SRAM took me a few rides to get used to so you're not the only one (and this is coming from a full season on Ultegra!) |
I'm fricking jealous. I have to work while it's gorgeous out, my friends are going to the beach and you guys are doing demo rides on the Cannondale bikes :D Posted via RS Mobile |
