Rode about 70km today with basketball shoes on the slippery platform side of my a530 pedals.

never again.

Highly recommended riding up Taylor way and into British properties. Great climbs, amazing houses, stunning views.

And i just about cracked top ten on the Cambie St climb from Marine to 44th. 12th / 632... Bah!

604CEFIRO 05-07-2013 07:30 PM

Scott leads the Saturday rides. Very fun ride. He's a great leader.

They're doing more Whytcliff to cypress these days since the weathers so nice lately

@dukes @ roast: parts ordered, will pm you both when they arrive.

now RS guru peloton: help time!

obviously i've been leaning towards the boyds as my next wheels, but now performance bike throws in a curveball, they have a one day 15% off there limited edition/performance bike exclusive items.

Easton EA90 LTD Road Wheelset -- Performance Exclusive -

easton EA90 LTD wheelset 599 with 15% off which will be about 535 with shipping, weight is 1540g as claimed, which is very comparable to the boyds

the boyds will be around 675-690 with shipping, the money i save with the easton wheels can fund my RS jersey :toot:

what do you gurus think?

UFO 05-08-2013 08:29 AM

Easton built wheels are solid. However I recall reading that Easton's rear hub durability isn't the best, not sure about this specific model, but for the money, its hard to justify that risk when something like the Reynolds Solitudes are around the same weight and $200 cheaper at full price, and up to $350 cheaper when on sale. That's a pretty significant savings, could fund RS jersies for a few of us ;)

kayceeee 05-08-2013 08:42 AM

thats true.

Reynolds Solitude SE Road Wheelset - Take an Extra 15% Off Exclusive Components, Discount in Cart

the reynolds solitude SE here with the discount would be around 365$.

UFO 05-08-2013 08:51 AM

I believe they've been down as low as $250 in the recent past. So if you're not in a huge rush, wait it out.

dat_steve 05-08-2013 10:44 AM

what i like about the boyds is that they come with the wider rim i believe. supposedly they're all the rave with claims of improved cornering, comfort, and are more 'aero'.

kayceeee 05-08-2013 10:47 AM

yeah they run 23mm wide rims.

ummm super good deal on these. unsure about the year but if you get them cleaned up and trued suuuuper great value.

$250 was rare and that was on ChainLove.com. If you can find the Reynolds Solitude for $300, that's a pretty good deal.

kayceeee 05-08-2013 11:40 AM

yea havent seen it for a few weeks now.

bcrdukes 05-08-2013 11:41 AM

You probably won't. :p

kayceeee 05-08-2013 12:04 PM

yea having a tough time to decide between the reys at 360ish or ea90 at 530 ish or just go with the boyds for around 680.

some friends have said i should just save and not get wheels as these wont be that big of an upgrade to my shimano rs10. which weights around 1900g.

604CEFIRO 05-08-2013 12:08 PM

Have you had a chance to ride with them yet?

They are a great friendly group to ride with. They have riders of all levels. I'd say average age are older? I've only ridden with them a handful of times. But its fun. The group can get big... FB showed some rides last week with 16 going to cypress

dat_steve 05-08-2013 12:17 PM

yup agree with 604cefiro. not to knock your skill level or anything but if you're just getting into it, a comfy jersey will increase your riding enjoyment more than 500g saved on wheels.
suffering up a hill with a 1900g wheelset sucks just as much as suffering up a hill with a 1400g wheelset :P

if you're really itching to reduce rotational mass go for new tires and tubes.

kayceeee 05-08-2013 12:20 PM

thanks everyone.

decision made. no wheels!

and start riding more as is. until later on when i get stronger etc. getting stronger is a free upgrade vs parts/components.
