I just use my MTB shoes and dual sided MTB pedals on my road bike. They are similar in weight to road pedals, and walking around is a bit easier in shoes with a sole. And I'm too cheap to get a pair of shoes specifically for the road bike. My shoes were from the same Izumi outlet, a sample pair for $30 |

Similar to UFO, I have MTB (Northwave Sparta) with Eggbeater 1's for my CX bike. They are not overly heavy and I can run with them on any surface with decent grip

For those who have ordered from CRC, how long does it take your stuff to arrive with the basic $10 shipping?

I get my CRC stuff within about 2 weeks.
Sometimes it's 7 days, others times it's ten. Nothing really more than that though, outside of xmas time when everything slows down.
I'm waiting on some Saint brake pads that weren't included in my last order. CRC is great, but they're not always the cheapest. Be sure to check out pricepoint.com too.

I was at the Pearl Izumi outlet in Oregon and I didn't pull the trigger on Pearl Izumi Select Road shoes for $75. I'm kicking myself right now - they felt great and fit well, had 2 and 3-hole compatibility, and were pretty light. The only downside was that they sucked to walk around in because of the lack of soles, just two rubber bumpers. How do you guys find road-specific shoes to be for walking around in, for cafes and all that? | My bike is also my commuter so I use MTB style shoes with hidden SPD cleat. It makes walking much easier.
Also use the A530 dual sided pedals but I might be swapping them out for a set of egg beaters.

I just bought Shimano XC30 at Bellingham REI for ~$70 over the weekend because I was tired of people staring at me going "clop" while wearing my road shoes...
I should have bought these years ago..

I use these
they are my first pair of clipless shoes, I too wanted something I could walk around in. They are ok, not the greatest looking, but do the job, I think I paid$50 on sale at Caps Westwood

Oh, I stopped by Pacific Multisport today (the new location.) Much better looking than the old location. Feels more spacious (although on paper, it isn't) and the shop is much quieter for when you do fittings etc.

How much walking around are you expecting to do during your rides?
I only ask bc unless you're thinking about commuting, having to walk a block, buy groceries often, ride down town and walk Robson or something then sure get some mtb type shoe
Otherwise I'd stick with a road specific shoe. You'll be able to put down more powah
The farthest I walk on rides is to take a piss, and to walk into a coffee shop. Quote:

The farthest I walk on rides is to take a piss, and to walk into a coffee shop. Posted via RS Mobile | I'm expecting to do a fair amount of walking because I want to use the bike to commute, go around to do some light errands (visit bank, etc.) and other stuff. That's why I'm going with SPD and a MTB/commuter type shoe.
The pedals I'm getting from a friend are also SPD, so that limits my selection of road-specific shoes due to cleat compatibility - there are a few that do both 2 and 3-hole out there, I know.
