my road shoes have a raised rubber heel and the cleats themselves have enough rubber to protect the sole from light walking. i ride my bike to courier stuff and do bank runs for work too lol

i currently use these, with spd sl cleats, they arent the most comfortable walking, it is a bit weird but i dont really walk much in them anyways, just washrooms and coffee shops perhaps since i dont bike to commute, but i can see why specific road bike shoes are a pain to walk with.

How much did he get it for?

I ask because steel framesets can be either really cheap, or very, very expensive (some costing more than modern carbon framesets.) The pricing for a steel frameset usually deters people from ever getting one. It's become a very niche market and somewhat a slowly dying art.

Went to get a fitting and got my speed play pedals/cleats installed from John at PMS today
Had a great experience here. John was very thorough, took his time with my fitting and a great guy to talk to.

Thanks again to Mike on here "bcrdukes", your referral definitely helped.

Will definitely come here again and refer some of my buddies.

Cash money helps sweeten up with the deals .

Does anyone still need a Garmin Edge 500? GF ended up getting me an Edge 800 for my birthday, so I'll sell it for the same price I picked it up for @ $180.

If nobody bites then I'll most likely return it back to roastpuff, but I wanted to pass this another to another member in case they missed out on it earlier

Problem with buying just a frameset is that the cost of the frameset is close to a complete bike.

You could try giving John @ Pacific Multisport to see if he has any frames available. He's an authorized Cannondale dealer. Gonna be tough because it's the beginning of the riding season for most people.

this.

before buying my bike i was wanting to just buy a frame i like and then collect parts, but after pricing it out, with all the parts necessary for a complete bike, and then get someone to build it, it was too much. i eventually gave up and then looked for a used bike and bought that instead. although theres a feeling of fullfillment you get to have your own customized bike, some friends told me its quite satisfying.

^ for sure. Spec'ing out your own parts for a build often does cost more than buying a complete bike. I can attest to that first hand. But you do end up with exactly what you want.

Back to the shoes, Kayceeee, are you still looking for some? What size are you? I've 2 pairs of cycling shoes, brand new in the box, that I'm never going to use...PM me if interested.

Hey guys,

Was looking for some help as I'm looking for a new bike. Currently I've been riding my old school Kona hard tail with some slicks on them. Mostly commuting (70-100km/week) but I'd like to get a hybrid/cx or at least something that's faster than my current bike.

I've been scouring CL for a suitable bike but I'm having a hard time judging what is a good deal or not. Does anyone have any tips for a black-book like valuation for bikes? It seems like there are a lot of used bikes which seem over priced to me but I might not be familiar with them. Or is it just something you guys can gauge from experience?

Edit: I guess an easier way to phrase it is there an acceptable depreciation rate for a stock bike?

TIA

You can try this: Bicycle Blue Book - Trade With Confidence
but you're right, it's basically what the market will sustain. A bigger city like Vancouver will have higher priced used bikes. Small towns with less demand will have lower prices. I'm not so sure about acceptable depreciation, depends upon the bike. Some bikes turn into something collectible, or are rare to begin with, etc, so thus will fetch a higher amount.
Depending on your budget & size, there is a '09 Kona PHD sitting at Jubilee for $999. Race geometry but with flat bars. Should be slightly quicker than your current Kona .

It depends on a lot of factors.

The biggest ones are age, condition, season, brand/make/model, type of bike, materials used, whether or not there are fanboys (i.e. Campagnolo or Cannondale.)

Tough to say. No golden rules per se.

Those were made in limited quantities. Have you tried Westood Cycles or Pacific Multisport?

The pedals I'm getting from a friend are also SPD, so that limits my selection of road-specific shoes due to cleat compatibility - there are a few that do both 2 and 3-hole out there, I know.

Oooh, I like those shoes. Very casual and great for around town use, it looks like.

Hey, I'm not riding Italian exotics around town. I spotted someone on a Pinarello downtown the other day!
