It's not that uncommon to have mismatched shifters. Doesn't take much to fubar one, and if you had other parts lying around, then throw on whatever shifter to keep your bike on the road.

installed a new 105 left lever and rewrapped the bar. kinda digging the black and white. Might just keep it that way for now.

Went on a "casual" ride with Alphamale, Wilso09 and a few others today.

I managed to hit 3 mins and 31 seconds up Prospect Point on the Cinelli. I think Alphamale destroyed it 3 minutes flat.

Damn. Cavendish racing dirty knocking Tom Veelers over resulting in a crash on stage 10. Judges did not disqualify him.

personally i dont think it was on purpose. cav passed on the right and came back to the left, tom veered to the right at the exact same moment cav went left. they're going like 70+km/h...

apparently the crowd threw piss on cav today during the TT

Agreed. Doesnt look dirty. It was aggressive riding for the final 30 seconds. Sure was entertaining to watch though.

My buddy bought a full carbon Argon18 with Ultegra and Ksyrium Elites, 1100 bux. So jelly

SlySi 07-10-2013 01:07 PM

Went through the past 30 pages here.
Quite the enjoyable read. Didn't even noticed RS had such a large bike following.

Anyways, Iv been riding downhill, cross country, easy city riding for awhile now.
Do not ride downhill any more ever since I lost my front 2 teeth.
Currently own a cheap Brodie for cross country and a cheap fixie for local city riding.
I'm not getting the rush/adreniline I use to get from downhill. Cross country with the Brodie and the fixie isn't cutting it.

Iv been contemplating this year to jumping into a road bike.
Iv always shy away from the road bike because of the costs of these machines. Although downhill riding is just as expensive.

As a beginner for road bikes.
Is there a recommended road bike in the 1k-1500 range?
Or should I stay away from the less priced bikes and get right into it correctly?

My past experiences, I have never been happy picking up a cheaper bike, as I end up moving to a more expensive quickly and end up losing money on recently purchased bike.

Looking for some advise for a beginner road rider.

Want to ride on Saturday?
I got a group ride early in the morning, but willing to ride again later in the morning.

Svein Tuft is awesome. For a guy his age (in comparison to all the younger riders) he sure can push hard!

Sorry, Saturday morning is a no-go. I've got an activity Friday night. :okay:

welcome to the peloton!
1-1.5k is a solid budget for a bike man...if you're buying brand new you can probably land something aluminum with 105/ultegra or Rival level components.

heck my bike was 1500 or so and it's more than enough machine for me!

If SlySi's location is still valid (Yaletown Snob) then he needs at least a Cervelo. :troll:

Quick question, I've been looking for a cheap road bike (to compliment my new hybrid I bought) and I've found one with an old 2004 ultegra full groupset. Do you guys have any opinions on getting old groupset vs newer sora, tiagra (2010+)? Listed price is $500

Kilinim 07-10-2013 08:14 PM

Surprised BC SuperWeek hasn't been mentioned yet

I don't have experience with new sora/tiagra, only pre-owned ultegra and dura ace and experience tells me the quality is definitely there. with older ultegra you'll still have more metal parts I. Your shifters over plastic. Besides a road bike with ultegra for 500 is a good price given the frame and wheels aren't beat. I'm waiting for a deal like that for my friend as well.

i would just generally stay away from sora/tiagra. at $500 you might be able to land a previous gen 105 (i think they're 2008-9) which is rock solid.

dton13 07-10-2013 09:07 PM

thanks for the input guys. I'm just generally worried with equipment that's coming to 10 years of age and how much longer they'll last + the hassle of replacement parts.

Newer 105 would be nice, so I might just pass and keep looking or save my pennies for something better.

Gastown Grand Prix tonight was cool to watch.

Kinda weird to see women and men get dropped and outclassed within 2 laps ...

Good ride man!

I checked my stats. I did the climb in 3:40. I am confident you did it in 3 flat, if not, give or take 10 seconds +/=. You were killing it up that hill. And Wormiez? Shiet. Despite him saying he's a noob, I doubt it. He was totally hustling us! :fuckthatshit:
